If Marvel had Spidey, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, Avengers would be background like SHIELD is in the Avengers movies.
I doubt it.. considering the F4, Spidey and a lot of X-Men are IN the Avengers in the comics

Fail? No. Make as much as 2 and 3?? HELL NO. Yall are really underestimating what RDJ did for the character of Iron Man.
Nobody has said what he's done for the character.
I keep asking the question and all anybody says is "He IS Iron Man" or "He was born to play the role".
The movie made the character more popular, again NOBODY is debating that. What did RDJ bring to the film that NO OTHER actor could bring.
He didn't add anything to the character, he didn't bring in long established box office appeal. He brought charm and charisma but it's not like he's the only actor walking the planet that has those things.
People are always on that "____ can never be replaced in that role" shyt....until they get replaced. The exact same shyt most of yall are saying about RDJ has been said about other characters. I CLEARLY remember people bytching about Mark Ruffalo being cast as the Hulk because "Ed Norton was perfect for that role". Yet when the movie came out Ruffalo's performance as the Hulk was praised more than anything else.
Iron Man was a C level character in the comics. Anyone who argues that is dumb AF.
*raises hand*
Uhm, how many levels are there, because Iron Man has been a major part of every major story arc in at least the last 20 years.
Dudes in here just treating Tony fukking Stark like he's Namorita or Pip the troll.

Nobody said Iron Man is some kinda unknown character....but you guys are vastly overrating his importance, especially outside the world of comics. He isn't, nor was he ever, on the level of a Spiderman, Batman, Superman, or even Wolverine. He's like BCC compared to Wu-Tang.
Besides, "The Avengers" didn't do $1.2 billion off of comic book fans any more than the Wii sold 99 million off hard core gamers. The only way you tap into that kind of money is casual fans. The type of people that don't read comics, so how important he is to comic fans is irrelevant.
Fred.

Because there's a movie ain't proof of a character's popularity. Howard the Duck got a movie for fukk sake. The Crow did too. Blade got a movie and no one in their right mind would argue he's an A-list Marvel character.
The sole reason Iron Man got a movie is because Marvel didn't own the rights to X-Men. And the runner up is The Avengers, who has Iron Man. If Marvel had the rights to X-Men this thread wouldn't exist.
And heard of Iron Man =/= you gave a fukk about him. People act like every casual movie goer in the world is an avid comic reader.
Fred.
Its kinda hilarious how y'all get owned on a point then move on to another bs point then get owned again then go back to the 1st bs point
the fact is RDJ can be replaced the same way Tobey Maguire was replaced people go out to see Iron Man because its Iron Man not because of RDJ who isn't even known for huge box office #'s prior to Iron Man
