Fail? No. Make as much as 2 and 3?? HELL NO. Yall are really underestimating what RDJ did for the character of Iron Man.

Nobody has said what he's done for the character.

I keep asking the question and all anybody says is "He IS Iron Man" or "He was born to play the role".

The movie made the character more popular, again NOBODY is debating that. What did RDJ bring to the film that NO OTHER actor could bring.

He didn't add anything to the character, he didn't bring in long established box office appeal. He brought charm and charisma but it's not like he's the only actor walking the planet that has those things.

People are always on that "____ can never be replaced in that role" shyt....until they get replaced. The exact same shyt most of yall are saying about RDJ has been said about other characters. I CLEARLY remember people bytching about Mark Ruffalo being cast as the Hulk because "Ed Norton was perfect for that role". Yet when the movie came out Ruffalo's performance as the Hulk was praised more than anything else.

I told you 3 pages ago virtually every review credits the success of the 3 "Iron Man" movies, and the start of the Marvel cinematic universe, to RDJ.

And :heh: at comparing the "Hulk" situation to this. Neither of those movies were very successful, "Iron Man" is a flagship franchise for Marvel, second only to the actual "Avengers" movie. If you need any proof of this look at how Marvel handled Norton (booted his ass) vs how they're handling RDJ (negotiating for weeks). Even after he publicly shyt on Marvel on Jimmy Kimmel.

Iron Man was a C level character in the comics. Anyone who argues that is dumb AF.

*raises hand*

Uhm, how many levels are there, because Iron Man has been a major part of every major story arc in at least the last 20 years.

Dudes in here just treating Tony fukking Stark like he's Namorita or Pip the troll. :smh:

Nobody said Iron Man is some kinda unknown character....but you guys are vastly overrating his importance, especially outside the world of comics. He isn't, nor was he ever, on the level of a Spiderman, Batman, Superman, or even Wolverine. He's like BCC compared to Wu-Tang.

Besides, "The Avengers" didn't do $1.2 billion off of comic book fans any more than the Wii sold 99 million off hard core gamers. The only way you tap into that kind of money is casual fans. The type of people that don't read comics, so how important he is to comic fans is irrelevant.

Its kinda hilarious how y'all get owned on a point then move on to another bs point then get owned again then go back to the 1st bs point

the fact is RDJ can be replaced the same way Tobey Maguire was replaced people go out to see Iron Man because its Iron Man not because of RDJ who isn't even known for huge box office #'s prior to Iron Man

I was all for replacing these dudes but I watched Avengers again. When they were arguing at the SHIELD office and the tesseract was in the background. Ruffalo is Bruce Banner. What he was able to do and bring out of the character was amazing. You don't replace that you pony up goddamnit. Evans is Capt. Hemsworth is Thor. Goes without saying but RDJ is Tony Stark. Pay these nikkas and do it again. Shut up and take my money Mickey. :damn:

Because there's a movie ain't proof of a character's popularity. Howard the Duck got a movie for fukk sake. The Crow did too. Blade got a movie and no one in their right mind would argue he's an A-list Marvel character.

The sole reason Iron Man got a movie is because Marvel didn't own the rights to X-Men. And the runner up is The Avengers, who has Iron Man. If Marvel had the rights to X-Men this thread wouldn't exist.

And heard of Iron Man =/= you gave a fukk about him. People act like every casual movie goer in the world is an avid comic reader.

Fred.

If Marvel had the rights for for all their characters they would do movies for all the teams and characters (FF,Spider-Man, Avengers,Iron Man,etc). If Iron Man wasn't A-list then who really is? Outside of Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk which individual character is outshining him? Cap?(maybe but I doubt it) Thor?(maybe but Thor is known outside of Marvel). He's not a nobody that people are trying to make him out to be. I'm not saying people know his history, but yall are acting like no one has ever heard of the name "Iron Man".

Exactly....

I can't think of a character/villian that can't be replaced. They are ALL expendable....

Remember the long ass thread complaining that Brokeback Ledger is gong to ruin the joker? These same clowns arguing that RDJ is some irreplaceable god, are the same that said nobody should every touch Joker after Jack

How did that work out....

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
notice robert fighting to get them more.... but taking even 1 mil out of his salary and giving 10 of them an extra 1 mil.. putting it at 40-70 million he'll make... isn't being discussed

he just wants to look like the good guy.. like hey, wasn't my fault.. forgetting they'd have more money to pay the rest of the stars if you wasn't taking 40 damn million a film
