I feel u. First impressions ain't lookin too good tho bro. U even got vets like Twista shyttin on it. I don't think I seen one person from Chicago no matter what age group or walk of life say anything good about it yet. Lol.

I'm looking forward to this but that shyt bugs me out. It almost feels exploitative

I never said he was beyond reproach. I said that he deserves the benefit of us WATCHING the movie before we judge. This isn't Tyler Perry, who makes a walk ass movie almost every time he gets behind (or in front of) a lens. This is Spike Lee, a PIONEER of independent film making and arguably the greatest African American director of all time.

I'd agree with you if this were 20 years ago but Spike's output this decade has been uneven. It's hard for me to get excited about a spike lee flick simply because it's spike lee. And I have no idea what happened to him or how we even got to this point with him

Ironically enough spike to me is dabbling into the waters of Tyler Perry bad casting decisions( making selections to ensure the cac consumer ) Tyler with Kim k. And him with nick cannon. ( I personally do not support any TP drag productions ) but just like his movies with overt religious overtones beating one over the head so the same with spike and these grandiose elaborate church scenes

And this is spitting on chi town to me. It will be some colorful hood version of a lifetime movie.

Fam I'm from NY and I felt it had exploitive tones. And to make sure I wasn't buggin. I showed my wife the trailer without saying anything about how I felt and she said the same shyt.

Son what are u talkin bout? Everyone knows this. The problem people have isn't the movie being called Chiraq. It's with the movie being called Chiraq and not resembling Chicago whatsoever.

Just watched the trailer and I think I'll pass on this one. It looks kinda silly, and outrageous. Will say Spike's motives are ambitious for doing a modern day interpretation of a Classical Greek comedy, but the execution looks especially flawed, at least by judging the trailer. It looks like a horrible musical. I was hoping the film would be something more akin to City of God which I thought perfectly illustrated the Favelas. I wouldn't have minded a film exploring the rise of violence after Jeff Fort and Larry Hoover were locked up. There was room for a variety of subjects to be filmed in relation to Chicago violence, but I think this film is tremendous misstep for Spike.

Something else too, can't quite put my finger on it, but Black women are gonna take an L with their depiction in this movie.

When heads say 'it doesn't look like Chicago'. Are we saying the scenery is not Chicago, it some other city. Or are we talking about the characters style of speech, look, clothing etc. If it is neither of those what do you mean more specifically? I've never been to Chicago so please inform me.
