This looked embarrassing....I think Spike has gone more then a bit tone deaf over the years...Doesn't mean I won't see it, or it couldn't be good....but I would be surprised. If he didn't want to make a violent 'City Of God' type movie, I see no issue with that, but this....using an ugly and racially charged situation to do a Greek satire.....complete with really broad stereotypes and broad gender humor....dudes are gunning kids down on a weekly basis, elementary school age kids are getting shot in parks by shooters who aren't even out of middle school, gangs are moving heroin in the streets in mass amounts, generations and entire communities are being destroyed and Spike Lee wants to do satire? With Sam Jackson looking like the Capitol One commercial? And costumes and set design out of a 90's Wayans Bros parody? I am not from Tijuana, but I would be appalled (and was at 'Savages') at comedy being borne out of such ugliness...like a parody of drug violence and sex trafficking, based around an absurd premise like withholding sex will cease the violence.....

Breh Dont be a Menace is a satire unanimously loved by people of all ages. And as i said earlier, even that movie is more authentic to LA than this is for chicago.

Wish i can show the huge amounts of chicago and midwest people on my social media, of all ages clowning tf out this movie. And it's all the same theme really, overrall lack of authenticity, it's alien, but is supposed to be chicago. shyt isnt sitting well with Chicagoans damn near exploitive of what's going on

you're right about "Don't Be A Menace..."...I stand corrected on that...I just think that a lot of these teenagers are gonna miss the message mainly because they cant identify with the characters in the movie...it's, like you said, lack of authenticity...Im from the Eastcoast but I grew up listening to a lot of Chicago shyt like Do Or Die, Snypaz, Crucial Conflict, Twista, LEP, GLC, Bump J, Juke music, etc..I can keep going on and on and the actors dont even sound like people from Chicago...they barely used any Chicago slang...they threw some struggle slang in there "30 poppa" but come on now..really? thats the best you could do?

the movie is called "Chiraq"...when I hear the name "Chiraq" i think of the drill movement with Chief Keef, GBE, King Louie and the rest of those guys..you really only got one person with dreads in the trailer?...the bandanas...there are a lot of red flags in this trailer (no pun) but I got a lot of respect for Spike Lee so I'm gonna wait till I actually see the movie before I lambaste it

Not interested in this film at all and I'm from Chicago. This will be a film for outtertowners, people are acting like this is next level stuff just because its based on an archaic Greek comedy but are excusing the fact that research wasn't made to make the film accurate. I guess "next level" and "inaccurate" must be synonyms now. It's fake intellectual drivel and a Disneynification of Chicago. . People 1,000 miles away have the nerve to talk like he did Chicago a favor. We did him a favor because the name "Chiraq" is the only reason people are talking about the movie.

When did a movie have to accurately depict, a war torn ghetto ,ranned by savages for it to be good?

Watch this movie get critical acclaim (which it will), then people actually go "I liked it!

This happens every single, fukking time.

I respect both sides on this issue and see where everybody is coming from...Initially after watching the trailer I thought trash but after reading that the movie is based on Lysistrata I can respect it...I'll say this though...the movie is titled "Chiraq"...I dont think Spike really understand the type of audience that is going to see this movie...the adults will appreciate it but a satire is not gonna fly with these teenagers...theyre going to miss the message and theyre the ones who need it the most

I get what you are saying but if these teenagers don't get the message when every week another child is killed, I doubt they would "wake up" because of a Spike Lee joint.
