Right. I was super disappointed to see him in the trailer.

The movie looks interesting though. I was expecting a more solemn depiction of inner city violence. I'm kinda glad Spike didn't go that route tho. There isn't much to add to the hood movie genre, it's been done to death.

This looked embarrassing....I think Spike has gone more then a bit tone deaf over the years...Doesn't mean I won't see it, or it couldn't be good....but I would be surprised. If he didn't want to make a violent 'City Of God' type movie, I see no issue with that, but this....using an ugly and racially charged situation to do a Greek satire.....complete with really broad stereotypes and broad gender humor....dudes are gunning kids down on a weekly basis, elementary school age kids are getting shot in parks by shooters who aren't even out of middle school, gangs are moving heroin in the streets in mass amounts, generations and entire communities are being destroyed and Spike Lee wants to do satire? With Sam Jackson looking like the Capitol One commercial? And costumes and set design out of a 90's Wayans Bros parody? I am not from Tijuana, but I would be appalled (and was at 'Savages') at comedy being borne out of such ugliness...like a parody of drug violence and sex trafficking, based around an absurd premise like withholding sex will cease the violence.....

the way I see it, he doesn't want to glorify the violence which so many in this thread are demanding. The fact that people in the thread are arguing that he is inaccurately portraying 'Chiraq' is a sad indictment for all...not to mention having lil reese and lil durk as the arbiters of this fukkery.
Spike Lee makes great satire where everybody gets called out, people forget that many people felt some type of way when Do The Right Thing came out. I think Bamboozled was one of his best works and I look forward to Chiraq hitting me over the head, insulting my intelligence, playing with my emotions and making me think and rethink whatever I just saw. That is what I love about Spike Lee joints.

nikka this movie looks huff af. It's a movie set in Chicago, that looks or feels nothing like Chicago, so dont be surprised when we are saying it is shyt. This is a Chicago movie made for people not from Chicago, . So what exactly is it doing for the people of Chicago that you and several others in this thread are so behind, not scaring white people? there have been a couple great tv shows (wire, top boy) but all the movies are trash and fit into a boring stereotypical box like pretty much every black film
