In India in 2023, Altman was asked how if a small, smart team with a budget of $10 million could build something substantial within AI.
His reply: "It’s totally hopeless to compete with us on training foundation models"

There is no point bashing Sam Altman. India has not even produced a byte worth of weights to even snide at openAI.

These models can all be compiled offline as well - therefore there is no risk to data being "sent to China"I kinda laugh when people bring up data privacy and a Chinese company being behind this... like TikTok isn't a thing. I don't get how OpenAI, Google or Amazon having all of our data is any different than a Chinese company having it (enlighten me for those with the info detailing the significance).
$200 a month vs free for the same performance is game changing. I can see enterprise level companies being weary of plugging their services/applications up with this, but on an individual level, the cost savings is too much to ignore.
Data is always the most important element at play, our convenience comes with a cost. I haven't used Deepseek yet, but I'm not afraid of using it...

The Supreme Court is gonna ban Deepseek too. The precedent has already been set. Just wait till they ban every Chinese app and program out there for public consumption, while keeping the private sector 100% unrestricted. So they can sell their polished turds to us to fund their billionaire bunkers.
I hope not, but their ban on electric cars from China that go for 1/5 to 1/2 what ours cost stateside pretty much tells us how things go.
Obviously its going to happen, by banning Chinese Apps and EVs, its basically there way of saying we cant compete.

I don't see why. The damage is done. They can't unopen this door. The model is open source... there will be tens of stable remixes by the end of the month.
