another problem is that youth are not allowed to carry concealed pistols, yet it is the youth that are most at risk for random killings. the gangsters will know that teens are not legally packing.

the truth is, you cant shoot your way out of this problem. one problem as you mentioned is that the gangs lack the level of organization found in other cities, so you have lots of young gangsters with no clear territorial boundaries. that murdered girl who went to the inauguration was killed by a 19 year old gangster who had been shot in the arm a few months prior. he was in his own hood when it happened, and felt it was better to start shooting other teens first and asking questions later so his enemies would know he meant business, i guess. either way, conealed carry is not aimed at people under 21, and gangsters are paraonoid enough that they feel it is better to have a pre-emptive strike policy. concealed carry is useless for law abiding teens who are not standing on guard duty, prepared to start blasting immediately.

this really is not seeming like a solution once you really look at the demographics. we are talking largely about people who can never legally carry anyway, and will not be a part of whatever solution you think will happen.

The police arent doing their job, something has to be done. We dont go with the status quo just beause you feel giving citizens guns is a bad idea. If the cops arent going to do it, someone has to. US. Bet if you lived in that environment, ud make that purchase.

im kinda neutral on the gun issue. i dont think chicago can get any worse, so im not really worried about what will happen with more gun owners. i just dont think it's going to amount to much, pro or con.

and ironically, some might say the cops did too good a job. the older gang leadership are all pretty much incarcerated and serving time in the federal pens where they take you out of illinois. the gang lords who would most be capable of instilling some kind of order like larry hoover have to do a life of solitary confinement in colorado. those RICO statutes turn these shot-caller gangsters into federal cases, taking them completely out of the community, leaving chicago with a bunch of inexperienced kids making things up as they go along, doing the most testosterone fueled things they can think of instead of thinking long term.

Law enforcement doesnt want to stop black people from killing one another, they want to stop them from making money. :ooh:

Ironic of them stopping them from using methods their ancestors used to get them where they are today.

Plan obviously won't work. How about actually doing something about poverty, education, and healthcare instead of enabling more George Zimmermans?

How about doing something about poverty, education, and healthcare along with not focusing on stupid gun laws that create a situation that only thugs can have weapons.

I live in a gun state... let just say lil thugs here know the deal. There was recently a HS coach who popped two kids trying to rob him. That's a reality here. No matter who it is.. if I wanted to rob some old white lady I better be fukking careful around these parts. So if poverty, education, and healthcare were also put in place things could get better.

Read the rest of the thread, bruh. This isn't really about citizens arming themselves against thugs. Gang violence can't be solved this way.

The guns aren't to solve the creation of gangs or to prevent gangs from recruiting.. but correcting violations of the 2nd amendment are a step in the right direction. If someone can see clearly enough to allow that to happen in a city like violent ass chi town, then it's possible that they could also focus on poverty, education, and healthcare in the future. They've been trying with Education in the last few years...

To the first point, I feel just like you. It's not like it can get much worse.

and to the second point, I also agree with you. A bunch of young kids, playing being gangsters and criminals without any organization. It's sad. I hope to see it change for the better before I die.

Not in Chicago. They just shut down 48(?) inner city schools. Now kids will have to bus to neighborhoods and go to schools with their rivals. It's a really terrible dynamic. Next year will probably be the worst for Chicago youth violence in it's history. The administration seems to think it won't be all that big of a deal on one side(higher level city politicians), and the other side (School staff, aldermen) is truly afraid of what's going to happen.

The current plan isn't working: gun prohibition.

:mindblown: The people who are getting shot are gang bangers and drug dealers.
So drug prohibition is behind all the violence? The solution is simple then: legalize drugs.

I hope it succeeds for the sake of the young brothers in the Chi but at the same time...major cities like Chicago NEED strong gun laws and I don't think this is the solution.
But they HAVE strict gun laws and they're failing miserably.

You're right. Then the state needs to step an and make some moves in order to curtail this because the stats are showing that the guns are coming from the surrounding areas of Chicgo, the surburbs outside the city, where the gun laws are a bit more lax.
