Increased police presence and police shooting a lot of civilians. In 2001 cops shot more civilians then civilians shot one another in NYC.

increased gun ownership may reduce home invasions and stick ups, but drive bys and other random shootings probably wont be impacted.

gang assassination attempts that get innocent people caught up are not going to be prevented by knowing some people are carrying, the gangster thinks he is shooting at other gangsters who are likely armed, and they do it anyway because they have the element of surprise. unless the shooter is terrible, no armed victim is going to be able to even use his gun in self defense.

they are going to have to solve chicago's gang problem directly somehow, but i dont oppose this measure, chicago cant get any worse anyway

it's about time Chicago done woke up I don't understand why people believe that having there guns taking will protect them when it's clear that the criminals don't follow the law now hopefully the law abiding citizen in Chicago can get there concealed carry asap to protect themselves from these hoodlums.

As long as the criminals keep killing each other, stop breaking in homes and shooting in public where families are around, its all good. Eventually, after enough people die, a power vaccum will be filled and gangs can do their operations in peace. Right now it seems that Chicago gangs have no structure or proper leadership so we have to wait for the kids to get older and become more disciplined in how they organize their gangs. Until then, citizens need to be safe from their dealings and allowing them the right to carry that heat, will assist until that day comes.

another problem is that youth are not allowed to carry concealed pistols, yet it is the youth that are most at risk for random killings. the gangsters will know that teens are not legally packing.

the truth is, you cant shoot your way out of this problem. one problem as you mentioned is that the gangs lack the level of organization found in other cities, so you have lots of young gangsters with no clear territorial boundaries. that murdered girl who went to the inauguration was killed by a 19 year old gangster who had been shot in the arm a few months prior. he was in his own hood when it happened, and felt it was better to start shooting other teens first and asking questions later so his enemies would know he meant business, i guess. either way, conealed carry is not aimed at people under 21, and gangsters are paraonoid enough that they feel it is better to have a pre-emptive strike policy. concealed carry is useless for law abiding teens who are not standing on guard duty, prepared to start blasting immediately.

this really is not seeming like a solution once you really look at the demographics. we are talking largely about people who can never legally carry anyway, and will not be a part of whatever solution you think will happen.
