Question: because the head engineer was soo adamant about pumping water into the core, that compounded the problem? Is that why the tanks were full?
Not exactly. I had to Google a bit. So the tanks that were full are actually underneath the reactor, and weren't a part of the original problem. The core itself had exploded, and so had the control rods (the tips of which were the pieces of graphite laying on the ground in episode one). Those control rods get dipped down into the reactor to help control the heat, but the design of these rods had a flaw. The graphite temporarily makes things hotter. They will show later this season exactly how the accident happened, but in episode 1 the fukked up thing about the head engineer insisting on dropping those control rods and getting water into the core is that there was no core, and he (and the higher ups later in the episode) kept sending people to go to a fully open and exposed core, which is the most radiation you can receive in that situation.

The tanks underneath the reactor were full for other reasons. A lot of exploded pipes were draining into those tanks, as were the fire hoses spraying into the building from the firefighters. All of that was falling into the tanks and that's why they were filling up, essentially turning them into giant bombs, because when the sand and lead being poured from the helicopters into the reactors melts and goes down and hit those tanks, the tanks' water would turn to vapor, heat and expand, and cause a massive explosion.

Did I help or just make it more confusing?

Same thing. Went on YouTube to watch more of what happened and there are tons of videos on there. First heard about another near explosion on YouTube and the show backed it up in the second episode.

The fukked up thing is is makes a lot of them seem like they don't even have cancer. They're just talking about their bodies being wrecked. shyt is scary. Dudes were talking about their insides just hurting all the time, their teeth, still tasting metal to this day, not being able to walk right, and all types of crazy shyt. Apparently the government has them out high and dry too and isn't taking care of their disability or medical benefits.

Make sense. They did mention the firefighters pumping soo much water to control the fire. What was ironically sad is you see the two guys who went down to pump water to core at the hospital and they died for no reason

On the second episode

That helicopter pilot who the scientist told would be dead in a week and begging for a bullet if he flies directly over the plant is my favorite character now :dead:

He must have paid close attention, cuz dude was like “shyt nikka obviously you know what you talking about. They gon have to shoot me”

I was just doing a Google search myself killing time before the new episode, and this video came up with an animation of what they are trying to prevent
