Same. I’m used to it now. Listened to the show runner. He said he debated the issue a lot, and for a while considered having actors do Eastern European accents on the show. He said in his experience sometimes actors doing those accents struggle or sometimes end up performing the accent just as much as if not more than their character.I watched the first episode twice, incredibly riveting, well acted and phenomenally shot. I needed this after the dissappointment of that OTHER HBO flagship drama.
My one quibble is that the British cast was speaking with their British accents and that was a little jarring at first, but I got over it.
He said he wanted the characters to be as authentic to real life as possible, and ironically by having them just use their normal voices that it felt more natural and authentic. He may have even said they didn’t have the budget to have enough vocal coaching for the accents to be good enough. I don’t remember.
And He says same as you...that he thought viewers would be weirded out at first but would get over it quick.
