And if Im Smitty I'd tell him he won championships with QBs who could get him the ball.

Its outright negligent to not get him a catch. I dont give a damn if he gotta tell the coach we're throwing him a screen to open the next drive.

I say this as a Jalen fan, but thats inexcusable. Eagles need both Wrs involved to reach their potential.
He would've had two catches that were waved off by flags - but either way when you have a three headed monster there's gonna be a lot of weeks where someone is the odd man out. That's why I didn't think any of AJB/Smitty/Goedert would make an All-Pro team or have a great statistical season, even if Hurts takes the necessary strides as a passer all three of those guys are gonna cut into eachothers numbers. Great for team success but obviously a deterrent for individual accolades.

Just like our Super Bowl year when we had a top 3 scoring offense but none of Alshon/Ertz/Agholor cracked 1000 yards.

While I agree. I won't get to down on Jalen this early for that. The way that pressure was coming Sometimes it's situational and you just have to go with the Hot hand.... and it was clear the lions couldn't do anything with AJ. DaVonta will get his, but we gotta keep things in perspective. You probably will rarely have them both go off on the same day. With all these weapons someone will be the odd man out more times than not.

It's the first week. They'll iron all that out as far as spreading the ball around as more games are played. But I think that's just simply the way the game played out. Only thing that matters is finding a way to win at the end of the day.

It looks like it's just me but I don't think Gannon called that bad of a game on the defensive side

I really don't think the players executed well yesterday. I saw a lot of overpursuing, bad angles, missed tackles and lack of discipline with gap and weakside responsibilities, bad effort with one on one blocks at the linebacker and safety levels as well as no consistent pass rush pressure. I think that has more to do with first week rust and the defensive position coaches not coaching up well and not all Gannon's playcalling.

The defensive plays were there especially on third down and the players were in position on Sunday but they didnt execute well

I think they will be fine once they tighten things up.

I gotta say the offense particularly the pass offense is more concerning to me.

I hope the Hurts to AJ Brown show this week was part of the gameplan to throw the Vikings off next week. cause I know teams are gonna eventually double cover Brown to take him away based off this week.

Hurts gotta hit Smith, Goedert and Watkins consistently when the inevitable happens and teams key in on Brown and try to take him away from Hurts. Goedert and Smitty are too talented.

Yesterday, I think Hurts wasn't recognizing those blitz looks and making the lions pay in the air. Sometimes with those blitzes, u do the hard count, recognize where the pressure is coming from, audible max protect and audible receiver go route, find the receiver who has single coverage and throw it up there as far as possible and trust that Smitty or Quez are gonna win that.

Next week at home is gonna be a good test where this team is at with both sides of the ball with the Vikings.

(AJ BROWN MAKES EAGLES HISTORY IN DEBUT)

*EAGLES SURVIVE HARD KNOCK LIONS, LEAD NFC EAST AFTER WEEK 1
*JALEN HURTS HAS OVER 300 TOTAL YARDS and a Rush TD (Now has 14 Career Rushing TD's already)
*AJ BROWN EXPLODES AND HAS THE BIGGEST DEBUT IN EAGLES HISTORY WITH 155 YARDS (TIES CAREER HIGH)
*4 EAGLES PLAYERS HAD A RUSH TD FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 60 YEARS (1961)

Well they got the W but of course there are things to clean up. First and foremost The Hard Knock Lions definitely grew from last year. They were staring at another Blow Out Loss and instead of folding like last year's 44-6.....they fought back and punched the Birds in the mouth. I thought Offensively we picked up where we left off last year. The Running Attack is still the most lethal in the league. Jalen can run, Miles can Run, Boston can Run and Kenny can run. That means in the red zone there are so many weapons. AJ Brown has already changed this offense in one game. He completely stretches the field.

It was unfortunate Devonta didn't get any touches but AJ was really hot. I want Jalen to distribute the ball but at the same time if someone is hot, they hot. We got AJ, Dallas, Miles, Devonta, Boston, Kenny...it's like Weapons galore. Everyone isn't going to eat every game. Players need to check their egos and not take it too personal because winning is the goal. AJ was killin them out there. I don't expect Devonta to go without a catch again. But AJ is the #1 WR on this team. Devonta is very talented but he's still young and has things to learn. AJ was snatching ish out the sky, fighting for balls. This is the WR we've been waiting for. I want Devonta to learn under AJ. I had to listen all off season to constant analysis of "Jalen, Jalen, Jalen". Jalen literally saved this team yesterday being such a multifaceted playmaker.

The issue that concerned me before the season was Gannon, Gannon, Gannon and I was right. He sometimes gets a little to passive. Eagles Defense is Legendary for being aggressive. But Gannon loves this bend don't break style. Well he had Goff looking like Montana in that 2nd half. The Defense played a great 1st half. Goff couldn't do anything. Then we got up big and they seem to go into a prevent style in the 3rd Quarter. That was way to early and the Lions came back. They seem to take the foot off the gas. Yes they had the Pick 6 but giving up 35 points to Goff falls on Gannon and the Defense. So I give the Offense a B+ and I give the D a C- for the game. The Run Game is beastin and AJ Brown reminded me of T.O. in 2004 with how dominate he was. The Offense did enough to win that game. So we have to get tighter on D again. Overall it's the first game but I liked some things and some things clearly need work. Next Week, Kirk Cousins. He's horrific in Primetime, I want the Defense to bounce back in this game.

"Why didn't he step up into to the pocket and take a sack :damn:"

:mjlol:

I'll be interested to see what Hurts can do when he isn't running for his life. It's the 1st game, ugly win, but at least we're not looking at 6 weeks of Cooper Rush quarterback play like some unfortunate fan base.

And it was noticeable when he was in too. It wasn't just a stat to see after the game, it was evident each time he came in. On that first touchdown run, he was the only player to get penetration it seemed iirc. I was pleased with what I saw out of him and the overall difference his presence made.

I posted in the game thread- we cant have Cox and Hargrave together to stop the run...its literally the worst combo they can go with- its increasingly clear- Howie should have never brought Cox back- ESPECIALLY- at 14M
That's why the run defense didn't concern me, we have an answer for that it's just a matter of veteran politics and naturally getting Jordan up to speed. If we reach October and Fletch/Hargrave are getting mauled like that then we all know what's gonna happen, but for now I don't mind easing the rook into things.

I can't fault Howie for that contract either, Buffalo and LAC were in on Cox at a similar number. If he falls off a cliff and is completely washed I'll charge it to the game.

If Buf and LAC wanna pay him 14...peace out- there is no way I would pay him that- let another team make that mistake
I hear that easy rookie slow shyt but yo...you were drafted top 12, son...ima need you to get in there and cause havoc, now is it bc his conditioning isnt where it needs to be?

Is Gannon a doofus? maybe its either or, or both- but Marlon Tutu...however u say him name had mo snaps than Davis...I know I veered off topic a lil but there is so much wrong with this defense.
