Oversaturation. You had too many games for people to keep giving a fukk.

People associate CFB with New Years. 3 weeks later is way too far. Plus you competing with NFL playoffs instead of getting out the paint right before they start.

Once the NFL playoffs start, the casuals stop caring about CFB.

On paper, ND and OSU which are both top 5 fanbases in terms of size (not in quality of human beings), and the fanbases both have "enemy" fanbases that are large too (mich, usc) which will draw hate watchers.

I think the NFL starting + CFP dragging out for over a month killed the momentum and interest. Also, despite the game getting somewhat close in the 4th, OSU was in complete control the entire game, so it's not like you had to tune in to watch a close game, shyt was essentially over by halftime, so I'm assuming that causes a big drop off in viewership.

The 16 team playoff was an absolute failure.
NFL Playoffs are dominating the airwaves right now, cant go against them.

Conf champ games first weekend of december with the 1st round of the playoffs the following weekend.

Schedule would've been for example

Conf Champ: December 7
1st Round: December 13-14
2nd Round: December 20-21
Semifinals: December 27-28
Title Game: January 4 or 6

that would've worked and kept fan interest.
