This! A lot of theater productions don’t translate to film. But that preview was god awful so how they played the whole thing back and still decided to release itIs this a surprise? Broadway musicals appeal to a certain crowd. Every once in a while you'll have one that breaks out and the general public gets drawn to it as well, and even more rare of an occurrence you'll have one that is adaptable as a movie that will translate and resonate with the larger movie going crowd. I have no idea why a combination of people, including producers, director, and A list actors, not to mention the big budget backing of a major movie studio, all signed up for this as if this was going to be that rare property that checks all those boxes. Could see this being a disaster from the moment it was announced. They have a special kind of cocaine out there in Hollywood and live in their own little weird world where shyt like this is a good idea

This is what they look like on broadway, and they do their own makeup. So with that budget, they could have brought in makeup artists, and done without the CGI. The set on broadway has large pieces to make them look like they are small, but it works. The CGI to make them look small on film looks terrible.

It also worked for Chicago. But the creative team for Cats missed the mark. It could have been good, but they didn’t pull it off.
