The 'war' on drugs was never about health concerns or stopping the flow of drugs into the U.S. it was about control of the supply and demand for profit maximization.
It was about funding and exerting power beneficial to the United States in Latin America and South America.
That's like saying Prohibition was put in place to stop people from becoming alcoholics.

in retrospect this movie was such bullshyt, but the tv show in the 80s wasn't hyper realistic so I guess it stayed true to the movie.

Dude, anything the American government does or is involved with is for profit, even nonprofits are profit. This is a consumerist country, capitalism doesn't give a fuk. They weren't stabilizing - do you know what stabilization is - picking the side that will benefit you the most. The concept of 'lesser of two evils' .. you have to read books. Not just this force fed pop culture media bias basura they feed to you or want you to hear. This is what they count on - the majority of people being misinformed or not informing themselves. at all.
