What did you fit in your custom box? How much did you pay for your custom box?

All this because he had a ported box?

I put a FI Audio BL 12inch subwoofer in mines. The guy tuned my box to 33hz I ended up paying $120 but you gotta know this was back in 2010. Ive had the same system for 4yrs and I see no reason to change unless something breaks.

And yes Ported boxes are just that much better. When you go sealed its mainly for that punchy sounding bass and you save trunk space if space is an issue.

When I first got my system some dudes thought I had like 2 12's or 2 15's. The reason my shyt is so loud cause Im in a acura rsx and my sub is firing upward against the hatch glass. The port on the box is facing towards the trunk which gives you the loudest output.

My box:

What was his setup
I don't quite remember off hand the exact details as it was about 2-3 years ago
Subs:
http://www.jlaudio.com/car-audio-subwoofer-drivers-w6v3

Amp:
http://www.jlaudio.com/1000-1v2-car-audio-slash-v2-amplifiers-98086
He also had a 4ch 500w Kenwood amp he used to push his mids and highs

A pair of bullet tweeters and a pair of 3way 6x9s rated @ 600 watts rms, though the amp that was pushing them didn't have that much power, all in a sealed custom box.
A crossover, capacitor, and noise suppressor in the trunk and an eq in the dash.

It took us the better part of an afternoon to take the trunk apart and line it with dynamat, shyt makes the bass sound :whew:

I've never seen 6.5s that push that much RMS

10s>>>>>>12s>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>15s as far as subs go.. do some of you even care about the quality of the bass?

Using your trunk as an enclosure will not give you the best bass response. I understand that you'd like to save trunk space, but ported boxes>>>>>>>>>>* If you can't sacrifice the space then go for it i guess.

Subs need room to breathe, you don't put 15s in the trunk just because they fit. 15s make more sense in something like an SUV. A pair of 12s>>>>>>> a pair of 15s everyday and I wouldn't even put 12s in my trunk.

I remember we hooked up my boy's altima before he sold it. Custom built twin 10" ported box, which was really a 12" box that we took the face off and fitted it with holes for 10s. Fitted it with 2 W6v3 JLs being constantly fed 600 watts a piece. Sealed the trunk to get rid of the rattling :scusthov: He would come through bumping this You could hear/feel the bass from 2 blocks away and by the time he was a block away from the parking lot, car alarms was already going off, when he got to campus, it just got louder, lower and deeper, but you still couldn't tell when it was coming from. It was just all around you, had people looking around like :what: where the fukk is that coming from? He had to constantly pop the trunk to show people that it was only 2 10s in the trunk because they refused to believe him. nikkas had setups with 3 12s and dual 15s and was like :wtf: cause their shyt wasn't even in the same league, just loud and hard and when they passed you it sounds like their whips had bubble guts :scusthov: Sparkling highs, clean mids, that shyt sounded heavenly :ohlawd:

Boy, you couldn't be any more wrong, lol.

Let me break this down from a scientific stand point.

The larger the cone, the better for SQ and SPL. Why?

Any time a cone moves, it's introducing distortion into the signal. The less that cone moves, the better for SQ. You won't achieve this with 10's or 12's. Ever. It takes cone area to move air. Notice How I didn't recommend Ported or sealed? I recommended IB. His trunk has about 15 cubic feet of usable space..More than enough for 2 15's.

Are far as IB goes, Some of the best sounding cars in the IASCA lanes run IB right now.

This is the highest scoring car to ever compete. Ever. Look up "hybrid audio G35"

See what he's running? Big ass 18 inch fi Ib3's. Enough bass to render the rear view mirror useless and they'll barely move.

You're delusional if you think 18s can hit those low notes as good as 10s.

Easily the dumbest shyt I've read on here.

What makes you think a larger cone cant get lower?

It takes cone area to move air.

I take that back. I'm not gonna pretend to know that science behind why, I just know that in my experience, I've always gotten rounder and lower bass out of 10s. Sure 12s and 15s kick harder/louder, but in a ported box in a car trunk I've never gotten them to sound as good as 10s. Not mention all the setups I've heard with 15s, from sealed to ported boxes sounded like shyt. It seems to goal is to stuff as much shyt as you can in the trunk and apply maximum wattage.

Bruh I think you should at least know what your talking about before you say things like this.
If 10's were as good as you say they are then most systems wouldnt even need subs. Think about what you said. 18's cant hit low notes as good as 10's... If thats the case why do most 6.5's cant go below frequency's of 50Hz? Why is it that the larger the subwoofer you get the lower the frequencys it can hit without over extending the cone so much that the subwoofer bottoms out? Which is what a smaller subwoofer would be more prone to... bottoming out at lower frequencies

those were just bad set ups
