How does it compare to Netflix's Voltron S1 in the dark and gritty?

Maybe on the same level? Cannon Busters really plays up the comedy even though several of the human main character have traumatic pasts they don’t really delve into it, there’s always a joke or quip to lighten the mood. In the show’s defense, the jokes and quips ARE pretty funny, Philly’s especially.

As I said before, i’m talking more in a manner of personal taste than anything else. I prefer more “grown up” plot-lines but the anime itself as a package is solid and i could see it really taking off in season 2.

:obama: I prefer mature plotlines as well. I enjoyed Voltron all the way through even the kiddy moments. I'll get to this right after finish Mindhunter.

Overall, pretty entertaining series and a nice setup if it gets renewed :ehh:

Sam every-time a certain thing happens, always has the :dwillhuh:

They really come for how bad Philly smells :picard:

The Prince was :francis: a lot of times.

The character design and color palette was :ehh:

Enjoyed this series overall. Just hope it doesn't take too long for season 2.

Dissapointed they didn't really go into Philly's past as much.

Fight scenes, especially with 9ine were :whew::ohlawd:

The Prince was a bit of brat at times but Odin is that dude. Glad he didn't die.

Can tell they took a lot of inspiration from Samurai Champloo and Naruto with that one character using substitution jutsus and shadow clones.

Hoping season 2 has a bit more of a focused narrative but looking forward to it.

7/10 for me

I'm on episode 3 now and I thought you trolled me. I thought this was gonna be a shonen type show but dudes in this are getting shotgun holes to the chest. Suggestive themes and folks flayed on meat hooks! :damn: Voltron Legendary Defenders wasn't showing nothing like that. :dead:

I don’t remember Voltron too much I stopped watching after the first season. It wasn’t my cup of tea

Like I said before i’m into Cowboy Bebop/Trigun/Evangelion/Full Metal Panic levels of anime where as they go on the storyline gets darker, more mature, and asks a lot of questions about the state of humanity and shyt like that. I think Cannon Busters COULD get there given the characters backgrounds, especially SAM and Philly. We’ll see in season 2.

Woke up in the middle of the night and booted this up and now im on episode 3. Shows pretty weird, it reminds me of space dandy and FLCL.

Its not my kind of show but I'm gonna finish it. Its just like shyt just happens in this show just for the sake of shyt happening.

Honestly this show was kind of a let down considering how long the wait for it was.

My biggest problem with it was it was trying to do way the fukk too much for a 12-episode season. It needed to be at least twice that long to properly flesh out the world and still let Philly, S.A.M. and Casey do their little side adventures.

They also rush through Philly the Kid's origin in like a minute and a half, and he already knew about Gara's Keep so I don't get why he wasted his immortality for so long until he ran into S.A.M. and Casey. And Prince Kelby's a little shythead too, so I don't really care that keeps getting kidnapped.

It reminds me of the first season of Seven Deadly Sins, where they team goes on their little adventures while they try to reach their destination and form their team. But Seven Deadly Sins made Meliodas impossibly attractive to every female on the show, and was :comeon:. Cannon Busters didn't do this with Philly and I appreciate that.

It also reminded me of Mech Cadet Yu. a Boom Studios comic that came out about a year ago. It also tried to do way the fukk too much in its short run (12 issues), and when we got to the final battle it had no emotional weight. I don't care about Philly wanting to kill Prince Kelby because aside from Kelby being a bytch, I don't buy that Philly suddenly has this dilemma when he wasted his immortality for so long, when he only wanted it to get revenge on the Botican empire. There are also way too many factions to keep up with, and the world building and villains aren't properly fleshed out.

They were obviously setting up a second season with the ending, but with all the production delays will it even get it? Plus these aren't the days of Hemlock Grove and Lilyhammer. Netflix is approaching Fox status with how quickly and unceremoniously they cancel shows. :francis:
