I think it is better for boxing as a sport for the younger, hungry guy who is more likely to challenge himself going forward than for the veteran who will be more calculating in his match-ups after this one just because he hs a finite number of future bouts that he is going to be taking anyway.
Pretty much. That's why I want Canelo to take the belt off Cotto...move this division forward towards some unification....word to Bernard Hopkins

so this is the finalized undercard for cotto-canelo

Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015
Las Vegas (HBO PPV)
Miguel Cotto (C) vs. Canelo Alvarez (No. 1 jr. middleweight)
12 rounds – Middleweight division (155-pound catchweight) (for Cotto’s RING and WBC titles)

Guillermo Rigondeaux (No. 1, No. 5 P4P) vs. Drian Francisco
12 rounds – Junior featherweight division (for Rigondeaux’s RING title)

Takashi Miura (No. 2) vs. Francisco Vargas (No. 5)
12 rounds – Junior lightweight division (for Miura’s WBC title)

Randy Caballero (No. 6) vs. Lee Haskins (No. 7)
12 rounds – Bantamweight division (for Caballero’s IBF title)

Jayson Velez (No. 10) vs. Ronny Rios
10 rounds – Featherweight division

not bad for 69 bucks.if this card turns out to have a good or great "fire/struggle" ratio like the russian card a week or so ago or the floyd/berto 2 undercard..ill give oscar full props for putting this together

Canelo is NOT losing this fight:ufdup:

Cotto hasn't ever beaten a fighter on the level of Canelo Alvarez....and he's not going to be able to do so on Saturday either:birdman:

when cotto throws a right hand he has a tendency to throw it with a clean up left hook a lot. a clean up left hook is a left hook that you throw off of a right hand. when you throw a right hand your hips square and your body weight transfers over to your front leg loading that body weight into a left hook that you can use to reset your body back into your stance when you throw it.

when cotto is throwing a right hand with a clean up left hook he has a tendency to trade left hooks a lot.

theres a saying in boxing that you should never hook with a hooker because when you turn your hips to throw a left hook you dont see it coming and you turn into it. that was how lucas matthysse knocked out lamont peterson. heres iran barkley and darrin van horn trading a pair of left hooks.

QeHzhW3.gif

bob foster was a guy that used to like to trade left hooks a lot. that worked out good for foster for a long time and then he fought joe frazier. cotto is a guy that likes to trade left hooks a lot.

the saying is that you should never hook with a hooker and cotto has a good left hook. but taking a left hook to give a left hook does not always work out good every time for cotto. that was how cotto got hurt repeatedly against ricardo torres.

i think its going to be interesting when cotto and canelo trade left hooks. a lot of things can go wrong when two guys are trading a pair of left hooks. you can try to block it with your right glove but because of the way your body is turning you can turn into it and it hurts you because you dont see it.

in the center of the ring cotto likes to work a jab and run in to steal a combo and get out. likes to be way out or way in. can run into counters on the way in and during a combo. does not throw a lot of counters but does throw a check hook.

canelo is a good combination puncher but only when a guy is very stationary. when you show canelo some movement he gets very picky and ultimately very inactive. likes to counter. against cotto that means canelo can counter the jab or counter the combo. i think that canelo is going to try to wait for cotto to run in and counter the combo. i think that is going to cause canelo to be very inactive during rounds and cause cotto to have more freedom to work a jab in the center of the ring. cotto is in danger of being caught on the way in and during a combo but forces canelo to have to wait a lot to do it.

i dont think canelo can beat cotto waiting and countering. thats going to create a lot of dead gaps of prolonged inactivity and cotto is going to fill in the gaps created by it with jabs. i think canelo has to try to force cotto back to the ropes because cotto has a tendency to willingly sit on and fight off of the ropes a lot. cotto can get very stationary on the ropes and that means canelo can throw more than one punch at a time there. however when canelo is coming forward he likes to maintain a lot of space to counter on the way in and that is going to give cotto a lot of room to get off of the ropes.

cotto has a tendency to get hit with an uppercut because of the way he leans into it.

i think canelo has to be a lot more aggressive and try to incorporate it on the way in. but i dont think thats the kind of fighter that canelo is.

i think canelo is going to come in very carefully looking for something to counter on the way in.

oXajhNm.gif

i think that is ultimately going to create a lot of inactivity for canelo and i think cotto is going to use a lot of movement and outwork canelo in the center of the ring.

cotto by decision.
Couldn't agree with you more. I think the inactivity of Canelo combined w his stamina issues make it a 8-4 cotto

Pat the reason I've been asking you for your breakdown, is you haven't said to my knowledge who you THINK will win. We all know you want them to unify blah blah but this is big for boxing and moving the sport forward....so drop it son

one thing i want to mention about canelo regarding that

historically mexican fighters who have been pro as early as canelo typically decline very early into their 30s
On the plus side for Canelo though is that he hasn't really been in any wars yet and most Mexican fighters by their 10th year have had some major wars under their belt.

The most anticapted match in boxing (because the shookboys wont sign the dotted line) :francis:

Miguel "Young Angel" Cotto. The best Puerto Rican fighter ever IMO. The current lineal middleweight champion. Former world champion at 140,147, 154, and 160 pound divisions. 6 titles across 4 divisions. The man is a legend point blank period.

Wins over Paulie MaliCACni :lolbron:

Antonio BrickGloves-O :scust:

Shane "Basement Dweller" Mosley :mjlol:

Yuri Foreman :yeshrug:

Sergio Martinez :ehh:

VS

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. This young Mexi-CAC GOAT has it all in life. The bad ass latinas, the money to buy a nikka life or a nikka wife, and a career that will likely end in hall of fame recognition (already a PPV star and P4P star). fukk the HATERZ:piss:

Wins over Shane "Basement Dweller" Mosley :heh: #Swiftwon #FakeAudio

Austin "Lotta Doubt" Trout:lupe:

Erislandy "Bout to Clinch a Nikka" Lara :damn:

Shaun Livingston :aicmon: or James "fukking MY trainer" Kirkland :dead:

Also beat the fukk outta Jose Cotto :youngsabo:

I think my thing with canelo is, he's simply not as skilled as cotto yet :yeshrug: . He's bigger younger and naturally more comfortable at the weight true. But cotto is quicker has better footwork better fundamentals head movement balance etc. canelo is definitely no slouch, and I admire his tenacity at such a young age. But I think he's bit off more than he can chew again brehs.

Said the exact same thing about him. Cotto is the quicker but Canelo is faster than him if that makes sense. Cotto also has more compact punches which is a HUGE plus & can fight on the move better. To me this is an even money fight & will come down to who has better stamina the second half of the fight.
