cotto is far from a defensive mastermind. canelo will most definitely land some big shots. this is the same cotto who got his ass taxed by austin trout. and yes, it's the SAME cotto. cotto hasn't faced elite competition since floyd and it's gonna show. lets not forget floyd had dude doin the stanky leg in there. canelo's power will take him by surprise and we're gonna see the same panicky miguel cotto as always. It's gonna be a close fight because canelo still makes a lot of mistakes himself. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get knocked down. but I just feel cotto is gonna feel overwhelmed eventually and get caught big. once canelo starts landing those thudding blows, cotto's whole gameplan gonna get sent to the bushes.
We gonna act like Cotto wasn't getting straight tagged by Margarito?

And don't get me wrong brehs...Margarito was (probably) using illegal wraps. But even if he wasn't...he was still landing.
The point is that up until Cotto's last fights with Sergio and Geale...Cotto was very hit-able. He's just a tough SOB and he took the punches.

I don't know if that's gonna work against Canelo. It damn sure wouldn't work against GGG.

So how do y'all think is gonna go and why? Breakdowns please @Cole Cash @Yuzo
I think Canelo is gonna have a hell of a time getting past the Cotto jab and left hook. I think since the Floyd fight Canelo has been trying to fight 'more like' Floyd, or use some of the tricks that got used on him. I think Cotto is too experienced for that shyt to work. I do also think Canelo will bank the late rounds, but will be too far down for it to matter. Likewise, the Canelo body punching will make it tough for Cotto in the later rounds. However, I think the cinnamon stamina will rear its ugly head and Cotto wins a close fight. 8-4 or 7-5 Cotto, don't think there will be any knockdowns, and if there is one it'll come from a body punch.

i dont know wha tgood insight i can provide but thanks for asking ill try. I think the issue is that Canelo really seems to struggle with volume and doesnt seem to press the action unless there is an opening (usually an obvious one from an opponent willing to trade) he seems to exhibit patience and thats good but the problem is that he doesnt cover that up defensively very well. Cotto might have that one last great fight that Cus always talks about older vets having and i say this because Cotto can use his movement and his body work as well as his underrated jab to keep Canelo more or less trying to find him. When cotto wants to, he can move, he can box and he can play it safe. Cotto does have a tendency to exchange because he is definately the type to impose himself on a fighter but hes the smaller guy here and im sure roach is running the right camp (i fukking hope at least) to where they play it safe and try to get a desicion.

The problem is, how does cotto respond to canelo breaking through his gaurd. Its possible while Cotto mounts a body attack Canelo loads up and lands, as good as cotto's body attack has been (in the past) its very very methodical, if you can weather it, the way he comes in its generally very simple but the results were always so good few could exploit the simplicty of his approach, its sort of hard for me to explain in words, but watch the way cotto comes in before he throws, its almost like a straight line where he takes some to get some if he throws a combination. This is how he got caught against ricardo torres all those years ago (granted his chin at 140 was nowhere near what it is now).

Canelos best chance is to score a big shot on Cotto and remind him of margarito/pacquiao, mentally if he can get his respect this will force cotto to either play it way to safe, or engage in a manner that gets him knocked out.

Im pulling for cotto. I always liked his style.

@mr. smoke weed @patscorpio lemme throw something out there and rock me with me on this and lemme know what ya'll think. Let's just say this is only going to be a one match thing and no immediate rematch or even a rematch in general. For the immediate future of boxing (next year to two years) wouldn't boxing in the junior middleweight division be better off if Cotto won vs Canelo?

i think you mean middleweight division mal....to me its the lesser of 2 evils..canelo is the lesser of that because i think he will go ahead and rock with GGG at some point in 2016...oscar spewing what he has said in floyd letter almost assures that to me..lest someone calls him out on his hypocrisy... cotto will not do it as willingly..hes already on that bullshyt due to him knowing what hes worth...a GGG fight will tax him...especially if that win against canelo is grueling...i expect 1 of 2 things from cotto if he wins if he wont fight GGG: holding that belt hostage like floyd did with the junior middleweight belts and/or give up/get stripped of his belt which would go to GGG...im old school..i prefer title changes in the ring so that wouldnt sit well with me

BoxingScene.com recently reported that Saul "Canelo" Alvarez successfully passed the WBC's mandatory 7-day weigh-in. Under the supervision of a WBC representative, Canelo weighed in at 160.2 pounds. Canelo weighed in at 167.8 pounds at the WBC's 30-day weigh-in.

Cotto's seven day weight has now been obtained, and the Puerto Rican fighter has come in at 157.8-pounds. Cotto was 160.2 at the 30-day mark.

On November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Canelo will challenge Cotto for the WBC middleweight championship, with HBO Pay-Per-View carrying the bout. The fight is taking place at catch-weight of 155-pounds.

Canelo has fought his last three bouts at 155. Cotto, although standing as the middleweight champion, has yet to fight at the full middleweight limit. His last two bouts took place at catch-weights of 159 and 157.

The winner of the contest will have to make a mandatory defense against WBA/IBF/IBO champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, who plans to sit ringside and watch the two boxers battle it out for the title he wants.

this is so stupid on both men...these nikkas are taxing themselves on a catchweight when they could have easily made weight at the full middleweight limit of 160..so fukking stupid lol

:heh:

They should've just fought each other at 160 like you said...it's not like one would have a weight advantage over the other:yeshrug:

Who made the call for the catchweight? Was it something they both wanted or was it a stipulation that one asked for?

I think it is better for boxing as a sport for the younger, hungry guy who is more likely to challenge himself going forward than for the veteran who will be more calculating in his match-ups after this one just because he hs a finite number of future bouts that he is going to be taking anyway.
