the artists back then COULD make more money than now... the problem is they didn't know how

Method Man said the same thing. Even after 36 chambers they was hustling... he was hustling after his first album. but it's not bad deals. they had the best deals. it was the fact it was still kinda new

rappers back then was getting 10 cents an album.. but the labels took NOTHING ELSE.. so yea selling plat wasn't gonna make you shyt... but touring money is 100% yours.. writing yours.. merch yours.. acting jobs yours.. features yours.. tour money yours.

the problem was, those clubs and venues didn't know about booking artists every weekend.. Meth said he was still getting 2500 while begging his managers to up the fee.. a plat artist today wouldn't even do a club date... shyt there's only 5-10 platinum album selling artists out right now, half of them from the 90s.

but today an artist can do 100k and get 100 club dates... back then a rapper doing 1 million wasn't getting nothing but major city dates... and then that was about their label doing it. cause nikkas didn't have numbers and connects to contact some hole in the wall, 30 mins outside chicago, for 10k. all they had was some label rep with the first cell phone, who still had to get out there and grind, just to get you ONE date... and that better be in a major city

that's why BIG tours was so big back then... cause instead of everyone breaking off and doing club dates.. you'd just get the heavy hitters, about 10-15 of them, and to a 50 city tour and call it a day. now we have less of those, more nikkas saying "i'll go do a show for 10k instead of waiting"

what you don't see tho.. is that rappers today got that 360... so the label is now touching that show money, merch money, film money, feature money, publishing money, writing money, etc etc etc. in reality they making more and keeping less..

Wow the lowest point you made in that post is the most important one. Labels did setup the tours, I remember reading that in a guns n roses book.

Which makes me think uncle Luke was Killin it back then.

You really think Young Thug and these rappers today are millionaires?:mjlol:

I wasn't around in the 90s but I'm in the music industry now. Rappers today are still getting fukked by major labels, actually they're getting less money now.

That's why we've never seen anybody get Baby/Diddy/Jay/Master P level of bread since 50.

The independent grind is good but rappers only realised this because major labels weren't making them money. These 360 deals fukked the game up.

I know an entertainment lawyer that schooled me on 360 deals and why it's bad for any artist to sign one. His name is Mike Epstein I'm sure he's published some articles online if anybody wants to gain knowledge. Good dude.

But of course Nas would be making more money now. His catalogue is bigger now more than ever, plus he isn't in a 360 deal like these new artists. All these legendary artists are eating cause they can tour arenas and festivals off their CATALOGUE.

But don't let these nikkas fool you with their fake chains and rented whips. The term "millionaire" should never be casually thrown around. That's a serious bracket and I'm willing to bet anything only a handful of artist that's come out since 2010 are in that millionaire bracket.
I don't think, I know Young Thug is a millionaire

And not all but Vert, Yachty, Migos, are all millionaires. These are facts.

I hear what you're saying. My question is who has ever confirmed these show prices and net worth of these new artists? People fronted in the old school era.....they fronted during the MTV Cribs era, and I have to believe that they are mega fronting in the social media era.
Nah there's def alot of frontin goin on.

Young thug gotta pay like a million nikkas before he touches money. So I wouldn't be so sure about what he got in his pockets. Part of the reason I hate watching nikkas I don't know pockets is cause u never really know what they dealing wit. These nikkas be in fukked up situations fam. Even Future in a fukked up situation.

But when you compare what these new nikkas are doing to what Birdman, Master P etc had going on it's a lot different.

These nikkas making less money on streams than 90s/early 2000s rappers were getting off physicals. And I don't think rappers today can get their masters back as easily. But like you said, if you work it right independently, you can eat good

I found it shocking that them High Bridge nikkas signed their shyt over to Atlantic when A Boogie had legit hit songs as independent artists. The business mind of Birdman, Diddy, Master P etc must've got stuck in their generation lol

I think also people forget, Indie is dope if you're willing to work but it's hard work. You have to set up your own interviews, make your own tours, set up your own photo shoots, videos, bookings, do your own promotion etc. If you fukk up, you don't have a label rep/PR department to clean up your mistake. It's a lot of work. For some of these artists, they are just creatives and they don't know really how to do the other shyt, so they want/need the label to help them with all the non music stuff.
