Yeah but Cam was 10x more talented than Trent Dilfer. Cam as it is isn’t exactly remembered like a Dan Marino. What do people talk about more with Cam? His MVP or the fact that he didn’t jump on that football in the SB?

SB champion, most likely SB MVP, retiring Peyton Manning with another SB L >>>>>>> Regular season MVP

The Formula is

Best = Personal Accolades + Team Accolades. Aka Brady and Mahommes.

But if you could only have one as a great player, it'd probably personal accolades for most.

If you only have one as an average player, it'd probably be team accolades.

It's not a 1:1 match in every situation. You're right in that the talent level of the player matters.

Cam SHOULD have won a championship given his talent, which is why its disappointing. You're probably right that if Cam got runner up for MVP instead of MVP BUT took out Denver and got SB MVP, it'd mean more for his career.

It's a nuanced conversation and also one that is kinda pointless because it comes down to your own perception as a fan AND what YOU would personally value if you were in their shoes.

Or I'm pretty sure guys like Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer would rather be in the HOF than SB winners

I don't know, it's hard to want for something you never had or could ever hope to get.

Trent's ceiling was never going to be all time great, so if he's comfortable in who he is and what his ceiling was as an athlete, then I'd imagine he wouldn't trade that SB for a MVP because it'd mean he'd have to be someone else entirely for that conversation to even have meaning. He maximized his ceiling within the realm of athletics. I'd be proud AF of my career if I was Trent Dilfer. Don't matter if he was SB MVP or if he was anything more than a game manager. Trash QBs don't win superbowls. He was our guy (Ravens fan), and he did it.

The place your shifting the conversations is more interesting when it's players who could have and should have won, but didn't/haven't.

So it's like, would you rather be great with personal accolades and no rings like Adrian Peterson, Ladanian Tomlinson, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Lamar Jackson....

or great with superbowls but no MVPs/DPOYS like Drew Brees, Troy Aikman, Richard Sherman?

What's the controversy here? It's hard to win an MVP and it's a direct reflection of YOUR work. Winning a Super Bowl is hard af and includes a lot of factors outside of your control.

Joe Flacco got a ring but he aint shyt compared to Cam and can't generate the money off his name like Cam can post playing career.

To be fair. Flacco was paid handsomely, still gets talked about as one of the greatest playoff runs of all time and more important still has NFL teams calling him offering spots on a team.

I think it's the "I did my job part", because in the biggest game of his life he didn't. Otherwise I think everyone would take Cam's career over random SB winning QBs

HE didn't?

The whole team didn't. His whole O-line didn't. His coaches didn't.

There's no magic to trade your MVP for a ring. That question is ridiculous and I'm glad he took the stance he did. It's him saying I did my best and getting a ring didn't happen but I'm not going to devalue my accomplishments. Winning MVP still means something because bad QB's have won rings because their team elevated them but bad players do not win MVP.

It's extremely difficult to get a ring and the vast majority of players will never get one. People need to stop acting like these guys are trash without one and celebrate what they did on the field. Rings matter for legacy and rankings but we can still honor great players who failed to get one.

So he didn't right? I didn't say his team did, and actually Luke and the defense balled out :skip:

I feel like I live in bizarro world regarding that fumble with how everyone talks about it. Like he just stood there and didn't do a damn thing or made a concious decison to back all the way away. If you watch it in real time (and not that super slomo gif everyone spams) he overshoots the ball so it's right at his feet, at that point his lineman and a Broncos d-line are both diving at the ball which is also right at his legs (neither guy recovers despite diving btw)

I see a guy who didn't want to dive for the ball.

Even he can't properly explain that decision.
