I feel like I live in bizarro world regarding that fumble with how everyone talks about it. Like he just stood there and didn't do a damn thing or made a concious decison to back all the way away. If you watch it in real time (and not that super slomo gif everyone spams) he overshoots the ball so it's right at his feet, at that point his lineman and a Broncos d-line are both diving at the ball which is also right at his legs (neither guy recovers despite diving btw). It was so quick I think he just instinctively jumped back a split second so no one runs into his legs, but he does go after that ball. He's on the ground right after clawing for it, and was actually in good position to recover it until Von Miller batted it back (which could've easily been a penalty)

I just think it's weird how everyone says that play defines who he is as a player when there has never been an instance before or after of him shying away from contact. We're talking about the most physical QB of his generation, maybe ever really. I think it's fair to criticize him for his performance and I'm sure he has regrets about how he went after the ball, but I don't look at that play like he punked out or he was the sole reason they lost. Did not recovering seal the game, sure. But they lost because his O-Line got obliterated by the Broncos D-Line which got him mauled, causing seven sacks and two redzone turnovers

What's the controversy here? It's hard to win an MVP and it's a direct reflection of YOUR work. Winning a Super Bowl is hard af and includes a lot of factors outside of your control.

Joe Flacco got a ring but he aint shyt compared to Cam and can't generate the money off his name like Cam can post playing career.

I get that but would Cam be any less marketable as a SB champion as opposed to MVP? I don’t think he would.

Yet you still know who Joe Flacco is ...:russ:

Cam Newton just a talking head with the gift of gab so he gets bread. Kawahi has individual and team awards in the NBA...but he not gonna make a lot off his name post career cause he low key.

I think it's the "I did my job part", because in the biggest game of his life he didn't. Otherwise I think everyone would take Cam's career over random SB winning QBs

Joe still making money as QB while Cam was begging for a look. As a QB you can't say I did my part, even if you did and we all know it. He's retired so you can give him a little grace on it, but imagine Joe B telling everyone this year well I did my part :mjlol:

Because there’s so much, “I’d rather be X than O”, are y’all really telling me if Cam Newton wins the SB that year instead of the MVP, he’s equivalent to Brad Johnson or Trent Dilfer? :wtf:

How about Drew Brees? He has no MVP’s but he has won a SB. You think people are calling him Trent Dilfer? Would he trade that SB for a MVP award? Doubt it.

Since that SB loss, Cam has revealed himself to be a goof and I am actually ashamed I cheered for him especially during his MVP season :snoop:

Exactly. It makes sense for Ladanian Tomlinson or an Adrian Peterson to say that. But if you were as great as Cam was at QB,a Superbowl ring is essentially an individual award that trump's an MVP award:mjlol:

People don't get amnesia,Trent Dilfer won't be remembered as the guy who won his team a Superbowl. Cam would have been remembered that way. I don't know if he means this, or is just trying to cope or be different. But this is such a damning statement he probably talked himself out of the Hall Of Fame if he had an inkling of a chance:francis:

^^^

This. I mean that’s Cam’s perspective overall (not going to tell him he’s wrong) but he would be equally lauded if he wins the SB as QB1 as he is as an MVP
