Blacks weren't using standardized US school cirriculm during segregation. On top of that there wasn't a standardized US school cirriculm at the time, it was typically state shyt, and even then blacks had degree of autonomy in how they educated their children.
Blacks had their independent economic infrastructure, businesses and etc during segregation.
You don't have to even be a US citizen to use the US dollar, so claiming you can't be independent of the US while using dollars doesn't really make much sense, money is just the medium of exchange.
