Seems like every other day I’m reading about some island courting its diaspora. I don’t go in those threads arguing that Jamaica should be treating me the same as descendants of actual Jamaicans.

The point of reparations is to pay reparative money for some specific grievance, so why should other groups get a check for reparative efforts over slavery by the American government? It is good that language is very specific on who should get it unless you want the benefits to slide out to every other group just like everything else has. The offending party is the American government and the recipient of those actions are American descendent of slaves. Other groups shouldn't be getting checks from this issue.

The main game that will be played is proving you are an ADOS however

What’s not to understand about the logic? Look at previous precedents of reparation payouts. The Japanese were paid, there was no “so what” if Koreans and Chinese tried to get what wasn’t owed to them. All Asians weren’t paid for what the Japanese we’re subjected to, what’s OURS is OURS fukk what you saying.

On top of that, Koreans and Chinese had a hate of Japanese and I'm sure vice-versa, so there is zero probability that Japanese would approve Koreans and Chinese or other Asians getting a chunk of reparations for the Japanese who were put in internment camps.

California and other local jurisdictions can set a precedent here that will lead other states and the fed government to act.

A lot of the stuff that was liberal and wacky and only in California 25 years ago (plastic bag taxes and decriminalized weed for example) is considered normal now.

No reason this couldn’t be one of those things.

Exactly! Everyone understands the differences between race and ethnicity/lineage except when we are discussing Black Americans. We are divisive when we have the audacity to focus on our people specifically and not all of the diaspora.

The minute you start making the language vague and allowing other groups slide in under generalities is the moment you start getting white women and LGBT and all sorts of other groups sliding in trying to get slavery based reparations just like countless other groups on other issues like 'black lives matter' giving most of that money to lgbt, especially trans, groups.

We’ve seen it over and over in our countries history. Our people are the vanguard for holding America accountable for its injustices and after we have been beaten, lynched, burned, attacked by dogs and sprayed with fire hoses then the fruits of the work goes to minorities and POC. Specificity in claims stops all of that and if it makes us divisive then so be it.

Wow, amazing the level of infighting and personal attacks in thread. Y'all really think you're going to accomplish something that way?

Rather than making these ridiculous attacks about the past battles, why not focus on the issue at hand? Because most of y'all are in glass houses anyway. The ones who are doing the most hating on people in the fight for supposedly not fighting the right way earlier are themselves supporting people who literally weren't doing anything at all back then. And there are plenty of people in this conversation (not all, but plenty) whose own Coli history shows that they were here for years and literally weren't saying jack shyt about reparations at all. So don't hate on people who were actually in the fight with this monday morning quarterbacking when you weren't even thinking about the shyt back then. Chances are if they hadn't done what they did then we wouldn't even be having this conversations right now because reparations never would have been on anyone's radar.

Okay, rant over. Stop fukking infighting. Ignore the people whose primary goal is to tear others down. If there is a chance to actually move this shyt forward then lets keep moving it forward rather than halting the bus to fight with every other damn person on it.
