I was a Nielsen panelist for a couple of years from about 2015-2017. Randomly got an invitation in the mail. They sent out a little pager sized monitor that, no lie, registers what you're watching based off of an inaudible audio signal, so you had to keep it on you at all times, and occasionally move it to keep it from going to sleep like jiggling a mouse to keep a PC awake. Came with an adapter that you needed to plug in between your headphones and your phone, or whatever you used as a MP3 player if you were listening to personal music. Was low-key annoying, really. In return, they would send $20 in cash each month as compensation.

Now, I think they do that kind of paneling less often, because a lot of live TV streaming services just have Nielsen data collection built in.
Huh? :wtf::heh:

It's not just load management and 3 pointers. How do you sustain or grow a sport when the vast majority of media coverage is negative? There's zero way Roger Goddell or the NFL would sit back and allow ESPN, Fox, etc to trash their product 24/7 all day every day. Yet every time you turn on NBA coverage on a channel that hosts NBA games, you immediately are met with disdain for the product by commentators. On TNT you immediately realize many of the hosts don't even watch NBA basketball and despise the modern game. Nor are the commentator's complaints regulated to just complaining about the legitimate things we all see, from load management to other stuff. They're shytting on legit great players, dismissing great teams, and focusing more on drama than basketball.

What happens to the NBA when Bron retires? We already have a glimpse: the media is making new Brons. Guys they will disrespect, slander, and attack nonstop. How far are we from the "Giannis only has one ring, is he overrated" narrative? Peep the narratives about Luka. Peep the disrespect Embiid faces. Peep the disinterest Tatum gets. This is BAD for the sport and at some point the NBA needs a commish who puts that SAS style bullshyt out the door.
Standing ovation

And ALL of this is at the foot of Kobe fans .

The minute Bron started to eclipse Kobe they had to shyt on everything that man did and it bred the ‘ meh, but you don’t win the title’ culture we’re in to this day

Just like they were using the audio of whatever you were watching to determine what you watched, they did the same for music and podcasts. But if you were using headphones, it's not like the audio was easily accessible, so the adapter was there as a passthrough to essentially run audio from your phone, through your tracker, and then to your headphones.

And the money was a holdover from when I'm guessing cable was a whole lot cheaper, so that $20 was supposed to be seen as them compensating you for giving them data about your entertainment habits. Back in 2015, that shyt was basically a monthly free lunch. :mjlol:

True.

Jordan stans shyt talk Bron but MJ's resume is such that you can say MJ > Bron without blinking.

Loved watching Kobe but he's not in the same tier as Bron. Yeah it's the very tippy top of the mountain but even up there we got layers.

MJ/Wilt/Kareem/Magic/Bron....you could throw in Russell because he was so successful plus his work with regard to Civil Rights. That's probably the top, top tier.

Kobe is in the next row down with Curry, Bird, Shaq, Hakeem, Duncan etc.

It’s not just her tho. The womens game has evolved. And it’s not just dykes and lesbians. They have a ton of marketable women who look good and can ball out. But the media decides what’s popular and what’s not. They simply choose not to cover it.
:whew: yeah that next generation of women aint playing

maybe Caitlin can break tho in the mainstream

because Adam Silver can't market the Women's game

WNBA players are criminally underpaid.....them billion contracts should be enough to pay the top players at least a million a year.....the coach for the Las Vegas Aces makes that :patrice:

Apr 7, 2021 · NBA commissioner Adam Silver reports that the WNBA has lost an average of $10 million every year it has existed,
