TBH I never really saw Brits claiming Ancient Greece like that. We didn't even study it in school. We studied Ancient Egypt, Rome, Victorians, WWI/WWII, Tudors, Norman Conquest etc.

I noticed American cacs love to talk about Rome and Ancient Greece. They create this overarching theme of ''whiteness'' which doesn't exist in Europe. It's always hilarious to see Americans of Polish descent bragging about Rome and shyt lol. Ignorance.

In reality most Europeans claim and brag about their own history.

What does using the system of government of ancient Greece have to do with everyday white citizens claiming ancient Greece?

White people aren't out here rocking togas, praising Caesar and buying marble busts of Plato to put in their homes.

They are gonna claim the most recent culture that their parents, grand-parents and community identified with, not jump 2000 years past that and identify with some shyt no one around them ever experienced.
