Thats the one thing about old rock bands! They are the definition of legacy acts. They can still sellout venues while charging 100 a ticket. shyt pink floyds darkside of the moon stayed in the billboard 200 from 1973 to 1888 and still sells 8500 copies a week.

Their greatest hits album has long been one of the best sellers of all time in the US.

It's an interesting thing as none of their single albums are astronomical sellers, and they didn't have many gigantic singles, but their greatest hits has been flying off the shelf since it's release. They were just the sort of band that had one song that people liked on every album, and the greatest hits solved that issue. Ever since I found out about it back when I was highschool I've found it low key fascinating. There's really no other case like this in world music, where an artists greatest hits album so far exceeds what the rest of their releases would suggest their popularity is.

I was watching a doc on them a while back. What also helped move their greatest hits record was the classic rock radio stations that took off in the 80's. They actually got bigger b/c of that then when they where together.

I wonder if their will ever be a huge explosion of classic hiphop station like their where with the classic rock stations in the 80's.
