It's about blind party loyalties, voting on perceived electability, moving to the right, bad messaging and so much more!

If I rather said Howie Hawkins was heads up in a primary vs Manchin and the most vocal democrat shill on a popular website was shilling for Manchin would that have sufficed?

The names dont matter other than a point of reference
Who here is voting for Manchin? I'm going to need you to tag them. :francis:

I think it's fine to see politics as a game you have to win. It's cynical but it's how conservatives all over the world see it and why they often manage to rule even when they are outnumbered.

The perception of what is a winning candidate is based on narratives formed over a course of years. Democrats allow the narratives to mostly be framed by the right and therefore think their best candidates are those that can appeal to the right. The more they support candidates on the left, even in losing efforts, moves that discussion more in that direction. Many applauded Bernie and the Squad for moving the conversation to the left but the major party apparatus doesnt support them despite having more popular policy positions than more moderate and conservative democrats. Even if they supported more progressive candidates in unlikely to win races to give them some of the spotlight it would be a move in the correct direction.

Regardless, they've allowed their most conservative party member to completely tank the platform and the credibility of the party and some voters dont see a problem with it because "who else would win in West Virginia?" It's short sighted and stupid

Sometimes the electability attribute and playing to win is the right thing to prioritize but not at the expense of the voters or the core values of the party. Manchin has reached the point of no return and they would be better off with him out of the picture

Even Bernie thinks they're sabotaging Biden

Sanders also portrayed Manchin’s position as out of step with his constituents.

“In my humble opinion, Manchin represents the very wealthiest people in this country, not working families in West Virginia or America,” said Sanders.

Bernie gets it but his followers don't apparently

One of my favorite HL moderate set debate moves is when they laugh at an argument they made up from thin air.

Thread is the very example of this. Most of the criticism surrounding Bernie Sanders was with regard to his failed strategy in his presidential run.

I don't recall there being much outcry over Bernie Sanders actually holding up popular dem legislation, negotiating in bad faith, or sabotaging the party as a senator.

In fact, even Nap has pointed out that Bernie usually votes the party line despite his public posturing or his own personal ideals.

Trust and believe if Manchin tried to run for POTUS as a dem he'd get much worse treatment.

Ironically, must of us view him as a DINO. Thread is bad faith.
