As Owen Jones has pointed out, you can't separate the leadership from Brexit.
A big reason why Corbyn became as unpopular as he did was because of his attempt to find a middle-of-the-road Brexit stance. It made him look weak and incompetent. I don't think that's fair, but people don't understand nuance.
Having said that, it's easy to point out why his approach to Brexit didn't work out, but what else could he have done? ANY Brexit stance he took was going to make him deeply unpopular among a large portion of the electorate.
