Cameron is frequently accused of abandoning the country at a time of political upheaval and leaving Theresa May to deal with the consequences of his decision to hold a referendum.

Britons are venting their anger at the unpopular former leader who called the Brexit referendum.

It's not Cameron's fault.
:lolbron:
The majority of the British voting public were stupid enough to believe the lies of Rees-Mogg, Gove and Boorish Boris Johnson.

It's almost like the UK was a special case that got every single concession they ever wanted and still threw a tantrum that they weren't even more special. :mjlol: Y'all wanted to be Norway, now you get to be Norway. Congrats, you're now part and parcel to EU legislation and trade deals while having no power.

Revel in it.

To be honest no deal was ever going to be good enough. The weight of history and geography was just too strong. As is usually said, the English are an island people who developed a fully independent outlook through their relative isolation from the rest of the continent. They were always outside of and on the periphery of whatever power/empire was dominating Europe from Rome to the Holy Roman Empire to the First French Empire. They pretty much forged ahead on their own and did their own thing.

The loss of empire and bankruptcy post WWII was a shock to the system and meant that economic considerations overpowered their initial misgivings. But they were never comfortable with the EU. They were constantly torn between America and Europe. As a relatively homogenous and insular people they were never really comfortable with things like free movement of ppl...giving up the blue passport to get a Burgundy one like everyone else etc.... When you're an island ppl, everywhere is overseas including Europe. The same sea that separate them from Europeans is the same sea that separates them from their farthest trading partner.

This is a classic headline in the UK

pretty rich that these eediats want to blame someone who was against brexit. he gave the people what they wanted, a referendum. he even brought in obama to try and save them from themselves. but because it went sideways it's now "but why did he give us the option to fukk ourselves." and he step down because if the people want to vote for something he is clearly against then that means they don't have any faith in his leadership so why would he stick around to implement something he doesn't agree with.

Yeah, pretty bizarre. I suppose he shouldn't have given them the rope in the first place. There's plenty of blame to go around. At the end of the day the Brexit people were allowed to lie to the public with immunity and then walk away as everything burned. Corbyn and Labor also shoulder a lot of the blame for not acting as a check in any of this. The remain and people against no deal Brexit are pretty large group and I feel like they don't have a voice.

So May refuses to rule out no deal, and propoes very superificial changes to her deal. Says she will "consult with MPs" but that extending Article 50 is out of question :jbhmm: Chaos in March may happen brehs.

It is what it is:yeshrug:

All of this was foreseeable for anyone who thinks further than "Brussels is imposing itself on us" and "Migrants are stealing our jobs". In the build-up to the referendum the discussion seemed to focus on getting out of the EU, not on what that would actually mean in very concrete terms. This is an unprecendented move, and the EU is an extremely complex organization, maybe the Brits didn't understand that. Getting in (or out) of the EU is not like getting in or out NATO, UNESCO or the UN, the ties are much stronger and deeper. Brits liked their chances in going in this uncharted territory, so it's up to them to manage this mess.
