Normally I would agree with both of these points, but given who Thanos is, people need to die. This is a dude that killed off half the universe at one point, including virtually every major Marvel super hero, solo or team.
A lot of people don't really know how Joss Whedon gets down, because they're "Buffy and Angel?" but dude was basically G.R.R. Martin before "Game Of Thrones" was well known. He would kill off characters left and right....major characters, fan favorites, all that. So unless Marvel specifically tells him I expect there to be deaths.

Gotta be Iron Man...Hawkeye barely got featured in the first and is probably going to be expanded on, especially if they want to make a black widow movie, Thor and hulk still have solo franchises, Cap too.

You can't kill Tony Stark unless you mean to finish off the entire cinematic universe right there, which I doubt because the GotG will not be prominently included in any Avengers movie. Cap as Rogers can be expendable because there's a contingency plan for him, but Stark, too important.

edit: there's a chance Bucky could be Cap before DCU even gets a chance to introduce dikk Grayson
