SOTD - Byredo - Tobacco Mandarin

It's in the name. Tobacco?, which is present, a cigar/earthy tobacco/smoky/incensy - stepping into the Indian grocery store by the spice section type joint.

Plus the mandarin/orange leans more orange than "mandarin orange, which tends to be sweeter imo. Both are there in equal measure, with a slight edge to the citrus. The notes don't actually list Tobacco, instead its oud, leather, frankincense, and things that are in the same "wheelhouse"

Like a lot of scents, I waited a long time to cop this decant. It's just okay. For the most part, I can't think of anything by Byredo that I reach for. One of those way over priced minimalist brands like Le Labo and DS & Durga that were way more popular in the 2010s when they were new and exciting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

*This 1 of my Scentbird subscription from last month. Finally tested and wore this yesterday. :dead:

This shyt is almost $300 for a 50ml :dead:

This shyt has coriander as 1 of the notes, which I didn’t pay attention to. :francis:

Coriander is cilantro.:scust:

This smelled like cilantro and a lil lavender at first spray. :scust:

Then the more I sprayed, I got pickel juice and cilantro.:scust::scust::scust::scust::scust::scust::scust:

The ONLY good thing is that this shyt soooo weak it disappears in 30 mins on skin.

I read so many reviews hyping up The Harmonist brand and saying everything last all day.

Straight lies.

SOTDs of this weekend

D'Annam - First saw them pop up at Surrender to Chance. Then I guess the influencers got a hold of them. Brand is from Vietnam (allegedly).

1) In the Garden - Greeny Green like it was from Goodie Mob - The stems of fresh cut flowers. JUST THE STEMS. This is now the most green joint I own. Christ, made me go out to the yard to breath in some compost, cleanse the palate. Notes - pettigrain, pear, neroli; Jasmine, Rangoon Creeper; Sandalwood, Amber, Coconut.

2) Harvest Season - Smells like soap. Official notes - Grapefruit, Orange, Pink Pepper, Rice Straw, Rose, Violet, Vetiver, Patchouli

Working my way through the rest of the discovery set.

Viet Coffee will obviously be last.

3) SHL's God of Fire? No. Montagne's God of Fiery - The 5ml sample of the og is like 50-60 bucks. The 50 ml clone is 45. Had to do it!

This is a great sweet mango (as opposed to a green mango). I can see why it's popular. Something about it makes it more "natural" than whatever they put in Vilhelm's Mango Skin or Unique'es - Mangonificent. It's got that BR540 vibe but not the smell.

Longevity is horrible. I put it on about 2 hours ago, and it's not even a skin scent. But for the price and the type of scent, I can deal with it.

~5 years ago - the joint better last ALL DAY, from at least 5 feet away.
Now, most scents I'm good with 4-6 hours, with only a sillage/projection of like maybe a few inches.

SOTD - D'Annam - White :mjpls:Rice

Smells like Jasmine rice. doesn't have a lot of staying power

I couldn't tell the difference between this and BTSO's "dirty" rice

SOTM - Jazz Club / Ocean Bourbon (Dua)

I wasn't 2 sure how these two would play given all of the boozy notes---kind of felt like it would be a 'everything but the kitchen sink type' type effect but it turned how real smooth :ehh: .

The sage & other shyt in JC help ground the Ocean Bourbon so the other notes could play & shine---like being in a cocktail lounge @ a cigar event wit a seaside view :banderas:

Between @WIA20XX & @Sonic Boom of the South & somebody else in here had it too I think, but "Pharrell" seems to have passed off sum mid
I had to Google wtf you was talking about.
I didn't realize he did LV Lovers.

But I just smelled the FBO version so I don't know how close it is to the real.

The "streets" (aka the internet forums) was saying that it's a Santal33 knock off/inspired by. So if it smells like dill pickles - that's a pretty common way that sandalwood comes across.

It smelling like one of the icons of the past decade is a plus and a minus...

LV did L'Immensite - grapefruit and ginger. The same perfumer did BVLGARI Tygar - grapefruit and ginger.

The more fragrances I put my nose on, the more I realize that in a universe of infinite smells, there might be a finite number of fragrances. Or a narrow window of what's acceptable.

SOTD - D'Annam - Monsoon Tea

The bergamot and lime dominate the opening. And now I'm getting the musk.

Tea? Yeah, this ain't no Noir 29. I don't notice it at all.

It might be there, might catch it on subsequent wears...but not really my jam.
