Because OKC was ready to have him be 6th man and Giddey balked at that according to Lowe. OKC is gonna have to make some tough decisions anyway. I'm sure they love Dort but once Chet and J-Dub are extension eligible, Dort is out the door. God forbid one of their future picks hits, that puts someone else on the chopping block. When SGA gets super maxed, many of their bench additions will have to go elsewhere. For Giddey to stick around, among other things, he would have had to have outplayed at least Jalen Williams. Furthermore, OKC keeps trying to draft a 3/4 lanky toolsy versatile guy that if all goes well, woulda eventually made Giddey expandable anyway. Poku, then Dieng, now they'll probably look to get Salaun. They have a type.So is just Giddey. You have to honestly think about why a young contending team would willingly give up their 21 year old starter who they just drafted a few season ago for a guy 8 years old with severe injury concerns. What does that tell you about how they felt his development was going or projected to go....mind you they know him best
