So is just Giddey. You have to honestly think about why a young contending team would willingly give up their 21 year old starter who they just drafted a few season ago for a guy 8 years old with severe injury concerns. What does that tell you about how they felt his development was going or projected to go....mind you they know him best
Because OKC was ready to have him be 6th man and Giddey balked at that according to Lowe. OKC is gonna have to make some tough decisions anyway. I'm sure they love Dort but once Chet and J-Dub are extension eligible, Dort is out the door. God forbid one of their future picks hits, that puts someone else on the chopping block. When SGA gets super maxed, many of their bench additions will have to go elsewhere. For Giddey to stick around, among other things, he would have had to have outplayed at least Jalen Williams. Furthermore, OKC keeps trying to draft a 3/4 lanky toolsy versatile guy that if all goes well, woulda eventually made Giddey expandable anyway. Poku, then Dieng, now they'll probably look to get Salaun. They have a type.

Fair and it's something everyone wanted the Bulls to do for a while but they haven't.

If they're finally ready to tear it down, Giddey's salary isn't gonna be a deterrent.
This is bad GM'n logic. You don't just sign bad deals or overpay players or add unnecessary money to your books becuaee "hey we got the money so why not" that's how you end up with toxic assets on your books. You HAVE to manage with a more coherent vision then that and this front office has consistently show the inability to do so.

If they get him at a decent contract, great. If not, in a year or two the Bulls will be financially able to do whatever.
And you would have then completely wasted an opportunity to capitalize on a highly coveted asset in Caruso. They better hope this kid learns how to shoot a basketball man. :francis:

I can tell you right now that Caruso is even more impactful than what your expectations are. Until he’s on your team and you watch him nightly, it’s hard to understand. He’s an an absolute game changer defensively. His point of attack defense is wild and dude can switch all the way down and effectively guard 4s. He’s an even crazier multiplier when you put him by other good defenders, the brief time we had him and Lonzo, they were like dobermans on the perimeter, and the Bulls were leading the East standings.

You can see guys are afraid to put the ball on the floor when he's guarding them

Because OKC was ready to have him be 6th man and Giddey balked at that according to Lowe.
So the franchise that drafted him apparently realized that he was no longer good enough to be a starter for their team and he was a headcase about doing what's best for the team? How does any of this make him look like anything more than a risky gamble moving forward :jbhmm:
OKC is gonna have to make some tough decisions anyway. I'm sure they love Dort but once Chet and J-Dub are extension eligible, Dort is out the door. God forbid one of their future picks hits, that puts someone else on the chopping block.
This is a good problem to have for OKC however. Look at what they just did with a top 6 pick from a just a few years ago. They flipped one asset for an even better one. They can continue to use their picks and young players as a bank the same way homeowners use equity on their properties to cash out. They're in an incredible position.
If Giddey was good enough they would have prioritized keeping him and at the end of the day they did not. I don't mind Giddey (outside of the weird off court shyt) as a player generally speaking but I am as usual confused about the logic of what the bulls just did in using on of their best assets to gamble on a guy like him who has really record scratching limitations as a player and is on the brink of immediately needing to be paid. It's just head scratching but at least it seems to signal they're about to blow this shyt up and tank to keep their pick from San Antonio.

CBS gave the thunder an A+ for the caruso trade and the bulls a C-.

bleacher report gave the thunder and A+++++++ and the bulls a D-

USA today gave the thunder an A+ and the bulls a D+

the general consensus is the bulls got fukked and AKME is :trash:
Analysts and the consensus is panning this trade. AK must really think their development staff can improve Giddey's shot. Giddey's advanced stats are not bad either, so the idea that Chicago is going to extend him for cheap is not happening with him approaching a "prove it" year.

For entertainment purposes, a Vuc trade would be glorious
