Of course which is why the idea of getting in a sub not built by the government or contractors is wild.

So many things could go wrong. Be it water pressure, seals/air pressure, water currents, etc and if something goes wrong, you're fukked because you're in a stupid ass small ass sub thousands of feet underwater.

They're 100% gonna regulate a lot of these weird ass private companies doing extreme tourism for rich people. You're not Bezos, Musk or even Branson. Insanely rich people with tons of connections that aren't in a rush to kill people to prove the potential feasibility of something without numerous testing across a lot of regulated departments.

Just insane
Yea the more I'm reading about it build quality the more I think the worst happened and this thing simply imploded
Yea seems like they skipped out on building it properly :hhh:

To be fair some of the submarines built by private companies are actually pretty good if they're properly built.

The problem is this company is pretty dodgy and prided themself in flouting regulations and testings. Moreover, while people are making fun of their cramped cockpit, most deep diving submarines actually have even smaller spherical cockpit like in above photos for safety reasons. Their gimmick is they offer a more "roomy" submarine that can carry more people in cylindrical cockpit with minimal cabin interface instead of the usual 1 or 2 people spherical cockpit full of control panels.

Another former employee of OceanGate who worked briefly for the company during the same time period as Lochridge spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak publicly.

He said he became concerned when the carbon fiber hull of the Titan arrived, echoing Lochridge’s concerns about its thickness and adhesion in his conversation with CNN. He said the hull had only been built to 5 inches thick, while he said company engineers told him they had expected it to be 7 inches thick.

The former employee worked at the submersible company for two and a half months in 2017; he was an operations technician who assisted with towing submersibles out into the ocean and preparing them for the diving operation.

He said more concerns were raised by contractors and employees during his time at OceanGate and Rush became defensive and shied away from answering questions during all-staff meetings. When the former employee raised concerns that OceanGate could potentially be violating a US law relating to Coast Guard inspections directly to Rush, the CEO outright dismissed them, the former employee said, and that’s when he resigned.

CNN has reached out to OceanGate for comment.

This is why i side eye people that talk about how regulations ans standards are bad, because shyt like this happens. Also no sympathy to any of them down there, just hearing about how the sub was controlled and being sealed in would be enough to say no. Not even sure how they were allowed to operate that death trap at all.

If you watch the first 3:50 of this video (or just go to 3:40 to see the Titanic Wreck depth) you'll get a sense of how deep they went:

It was unclear when the banging was heard Tuesday or for how long, based on the memo obtained by CNN. A later update sent Tuesday night suggested more sounds were heard though it was not described as “banging.”
