They don't want to announce a new head coach while the season is still ongoing. They're waiting until after the season ends next week against Vandy. Announcement will be either on that Sunday or Tuesday.

Same reason they were trying to keep Butch Jones around until the end of the year. Out of respect to the current players and coaches. They want the team to focus on winning the last 2 games and getting to a bowl game. If Tennessee announced Gruden as the head coach right now, it would be pandemonium in Knoxville. No one would be talking about the last 2 games. The coaches would get questions about whether Gruden let them know if they'll be on the new staff. Players would get asked about him more than the upcoming opponent.

Plus there isn't much of an advantage to be gained right now in recruiting. Players can't sign until Dec. 20. If Gruden is hired on Nov. 26 he will still have over 3 weeks to get back the recruits we've lost. Remember Butch Jones had a consensus top 5-6 class committed before he was fired and players decommitted. Gruden might attract some new names but the main thing will be trying to keep everyone we originally had back in the class.

Media is finally catching on it right now: Report: Tennessee AD John Currie Flew To Tampa Bay To Pitch Jon Gruden

The contract was agreed to last night. The entire UT contingent was down in Tampa. All that's left now is for Gruden to assemble a staff.

Out of respect to the players and coaches preparing for the LSU game, no accoucement will be made until next week (if they lose). If they miraculously beat LSU then the announcement most likely won't happen until after the Vandy game.
