What do you think they just did with the legislative session all but done for the year? The intent was never to pass anything except another Reparations study. In order to kick the can down the road and use it as a Democrat talking point in the future.
:mjlol:
I agree. I've previously said in Coli that these "so called" reparations studies are just cash grabs to different organizations. Doing this before a presidential election isn't a good look but they just might be sloppier than we think.

agents didn't give a damn about this bill until it was rejected, no mention of it anywhere on this site to discuss it and promote it . no grassroots call to action to by these concerned posters to get California residents to call their representatives to pass this bill or anything.

They've already passed more than "another reparations study". They just passed a bill to return seized property to Black people.

Bill Title: California American Freedmen Affairs Agency: racially motivated eminent domain.

Spectrum: Partisan Bill (Democrat 13-0)

Status: (Enrolled) 2024-08-29 - Assembly amendments concurred in. (Ayes 37. Noes 0.) Ordered to engrossing and enrolling. [SB1050 Detail]

This bill would require the Office of Legal Affairs, which would be established within the California American Freedmen Affairs Agency as provided by SB 1403 of the 2023–24 Regular Session, to, upon appropriation by the Legislature, review, investigate, and make certain determinations regarding applications from persons who claim they are the dispossessed owner, as defined, of property taken as a result of racially motivated eminent domain. The bill would define “racially motivated eminent domain” to mean when the state, county, city, city and county, district, or other political subdivision of the state acquires private property for public use and does not distribute just compensation to the owner at the time of the taking, and the taking, or the failure to provide just compensation, was due, in whole or in part, to the owner’s ethnicity or race. Upon a determination that providing property or just compensation is warranted, as provided, the bill would require the Office of Legal Affairs to certify that the dispossessed owner is entitled to the return of the taken property, as specified, or other publicly held property, as defined, of equal value, or financial compensation, as specified. Upon a determination that the dispossessed owner is entitled to other publicly held property of equal value, the bill would require the Office of Legal Affairs to solicit and select, as specified, a list of recommendations of publicly held properties that are suitable as compensation, as provided. Upon a rejection of the determination of the Office of Legal Affairs by the state or local agency that took property by racially motivated eminent domain, the bill would authorize the dispossessed owner, as specified, to bring an action to challenge the taking or the amount of compensation, as provided. Upon a determination that an applicant is not a dispossessed owner or issuing property or just compensation is not warranted, the bill would require the Office of Legal Affairs to notify the applicant of its finding and provide an appeal process, as specified. The bill would make every finding, decision, determination, or other official act of the California American Freedmen Affairs Agency subject to judicial review.

Not a single one of your links is about these two bills, those links aren't even from this year. :snoop:

Did you even read what he said or not? "agents didn't give a damn about this bill until it was rejected, no mention of it anywhere on this site to discuss it and promote it . no grassroots call to action to by these concerned posters to get California residents to call their representatives to pass this bill or anything."

How would anyone have promoted these two bills or called their representatives to pass them during a legislative session when the bills weren't even written yet? :dahell:

You just proved his point that no one on this site was talking about THESE BILLS, the bills that got pulled today, until they were pulled.

He’s the one they used to poison the bill and play politics. He voted no every time even for the resolution lol

Brother please don’t fall for the trap. Republicans poisoned the bill with what you can use the money for and the black caucus disagreed.

Why would you want reparations money to go to people who lost lands to the state via eminent domain ? It doesn’t make sense.

When have Republicans overwhelmingly put forward a bill to help black people ?

I can't lie, breh. If the GOP added poison-pill amendments, you're gonna have to post some links, proofs, or something. Cuz right now, this looks like a political play. :francis:

There is no guarantee Newsom will sign any of the bills at this point. We not falling for this trick of them passing nothing burger bills. And then acting like it's everything that was agreed upon.

California Reparations Bill for Racist Land Seizures Advances to Newsom's Desk

If signed into law, SB 1050 would create a standardized state process to review claims. However, the bill is dependent on the passage of SB 1403, which is still pending before the Assembly. SB 1403 would establish the California American Freedmen Affairs Agency to implement the recommendations of the reparations task force. The agency would, among other duties, determine how an individual’s status as a descendant of an enslaved person would be confirmed.

If SB 1403 becomes law, SB 1050 would still need the Legislature to allocate funding to the bill for it to be enacted.
