As the youngest person ever charged with first-degree premeditated murder in Kent County, Jamarion’s home for the foreseeable future is the Kent County Juvenile Detention Center.
His every move is monitored not by his parents - who have lost custody of the boy - but by the 101 staff members where he stays with other children being detained at the center on the city's Northeast Side.
He is its youngest long-term resident.
Jamarion is charged with the fatal stabbing of 9-year-old Connor Verkerke at a Kentwood playground on Aug. 4. Authorities have said the attack was unprovoked and that Jamarion called 911 after allegedly knifing the other boy, telling a police dispatcher "I want to die. I'm tired of life."
Jamarion's mother and stepfather have been charged with child abuse after the young suspect was found to be covered with bruises after his arrest, and told police about being beaten with a belt and electrical cord.
