Used to love MMA, covered it for years at another site but I just dont like the UFC as it is now. The smaller promotions have much better fights in any case I grew up with Boxing and it will always be number 1 in my heart.

I used to absolutely love MMA but as UFC began to dominate I started enjoying it less. Way too much lay and pray. I love watch a great ground fight when you can tell the fighters are attempting to have a ground game. Too often one guy will get the other down and the bottom fighter is all defense trying to prevent transitions while the top guy is doing just enough to keep the fight from being stood up without trying to finish or set up any submissions. I definitely miss Pride and even Strikeforce. Those events were often more entertaining as it felt that they were grinding harder for a definitive win.

I love boxing but I just wish there was less emphasis placed on losses. Now if a fighter gets one or two losses he's tossed to the curb for the most part. So you see fighters scared to make the big fights.

Jones learned about MMA from youtube, but he'd been wrestling since high school and was a state champion in Upstate New York.

I'm saying but learned arm bars and stuff, from watching youtube demostrations and then he practice them when he first started.

And lets be real, reason Jon Jones has been dominated, is because he's way better athlete then the rest of the UFC fighters.

He even admitted his brother on the ravens would give him the beats more than likely

Look at the early UFC's, the athletes weren't really there,

MMA won't take over until you get 15 Jon Jones' type athletes at least spread out in the divisions

I'd rather watch Anderson beat up on Light Heavies, then any Title Fight in any division, because besides him MMA is rarely exciting on that level.

The best boxers in the world got belts.
the best BJJ guy in the world is not in any MMA organization.
The best Muy Thai guy in the world is not in any MMA organization
the best wrestler is not any MMA organziations

MMA is a sport, that combines all these different aspects, but its completely separate from those arts, and a lot of the fighters aren't super efficient even if in their stongest aspect, so most of the fights don't look pretty to look at.

No, boxing actually is more technical and has 100+ years behind it, sorry but when I watch MMA stuff I have to remember not to critique them like I would a boxer. I see dudes throw shytty looking punches and look completely lost when they fight southpaws too, that's part of the reason why Anderson has laid waste to so many folks. They don't do things boxers would do to take away that advantage, something as simple as getting your lead foot outside their lead foot :manny:

When someone like Brock Lesnar can come in off the street and become a champ in relatively no time, you can't talk about the technical skills matching boxing. I get it, he was a great wrestler in college, but a great golden gloves boxer that turns pro after 10+ years of not participating in the sport will get lit the fukk up against a champion.

:ohlawd: at the truth in this.

im a boxing fan, and not much of an mma fan though some fights are entertaining, the sport itself has failed to win me over completely

i think boxing fans that attack mma are probably a little worried about boxing's condition. we have no american heavy weight that's worth a damn, and money mayweather isnt getting any younger. the level of corruption seems to be on an upswing as well.

for what it's worth, i have seen mma fans attacking boxing as well, so really you could have just made a thread about why people attack things in general. i have read comments from mma fans that boxing is dead, boxers are not real fighters because they only use punches, it is impossible for a boxer to be the best fighter in the world, etc.

fans of both sports get reckless, probably cuz it's the internet. early on, you had the cultural problem, early american mma did seem like a white ethnic thing, since american whites in general have not seen much success in boxing for decades. now minorities are doing well in mma too so it is hard to lay that stigma on the sport anymore

I think the main problem MMA has with most people who find a lot of fights boring is that they just flat out don't understand all of the various disciplines that go into it. There is SO MUCH to be accounted for in a fight. A lot of people don't ooo and ahh over the intricacies of a really good BJJ guy, or a wrestler grappling for position.

Another thing is that the striking is SO different. Boxing is more smooth and beautiful to look at, but in an MMA fight, you have to be aware of so much more, it is going to be a lot uglier looking, because you have to be ready for a leg kick or a guy shooting for a takedown.

I understand why people feel this way, but I think if they took more time to learn all the ins and outs of the sport, they'd see why so many people find it so exciting
It's the cards now to me honestly . They ran it into the ground and to be honest I don't like mma lightweight divisions . The wars the Mexicans have in boxing a lighter divisions :ohlawd: mma is turning into boxing somewhat too now that they serving too many masters why should sonned get title shots ?? he's a good fighter and a entertaining personality but skipping the line isn't what's up
Not true. It can't be seen as a sport for the "white boys in glittery affliction shirts" when most of the champions are of color.

Many dislike MMA because of the grappling. Jackson vs Bader is common in the sport.

There are to many decisions in a sport where you can do almost anything to your opponent.

I for one miss body slams and soccer kicks and UFC puts on way too many mediocre PPV cards for my taste.

Bingo the cards are getting diluted . Some cards the whole card could wind up being bad

I will agree that the cards are diluted in the UFC. They have a ton of shows, and the problem is that they house so many fighters with contracts they have to honor and give fights. They need to set up more events on cable or fox and keep the ppvs big spectacles only before they burn out their audience

As a fan of both, I'm not a impressed with mma fighters stand up. They rarely keep their hands up, they get caught by haymakers too often and they have no chin.

I have always found that MMA fans are more likley to discredit boxing than vice versa.
Any time there is a shytty decision in a boxing match you will invariably get some MMA fanboy to show up and go on and on about how boxing is crooked and boring and that is why MMA is better.
And MMA fans tend to like to talk about how boxing is dying...they have been calling the time of death on boxing since the second ESPN stopped treating MMA like a carnival attraction.

i dont hate mma in the least...boxing is my favorite sport....but ive been all in with mma since the early days of ufc..there's plenty of skill in mma..the only thing about mma that bothers me is the lack of cardio..i frown when i see boxers gassed early and i frown on seeing mma fighters sucking wind after 1 round..but other than that i got no problems with it:myman:
