If you're referring to the Momoshiki fight, they couldn't use ninjutsu because he had rinnegan hands and was absorbing their chakra. That's why instead of hitting him with the rasenshurikan it was a sasuke substitute.

The scene where naruto reveals boruto cheating actually meant more from watching in the anime than the movie. They could have atleast show the scene of sasuke teaching sarada the fire technique, because it's totally messed up that sasuke has spent more time with boruto than his own child.

I finally caught up and binged the show over the past few weeks and this is my NUMBER ONE complaint about the show. The new ninjas get their abilities basically randomly from episode to episode instead of training hard for it like Naruto did in the originals, so when they show us something new it's like their pulling a new ability completely out of their ass.

The development of boruto himself has been interesting but they took him into a different direction than I expected or wanted. I didn't watch the movie or watch the manga, I thought the headband in the first ep meant he was gonna become a rogue ninja, or travel with Sasuke, so I was getting ready for that, that would've been good, but now I'm not so sure that will happen.

Well had high hopes for this after the amazing fight against Momoshinki, but two children of God tier shinobi one with wind/lightning/water release and the other with sharingan getting handled by ina-shika-cho kids was trash.

Oh and Boruto basically being Naruto circa Shippuden happy go lucky friends with everyone is fukking wack.

I was down for Boruto character development being the cocky rich kkid who has to learn to team with others but this is just Naruto shippuden all over again.
