If you check The Boondocks Instagram page a lot of fans are unhappy about the JD video experience. The people running page disabled some of the comment sections.
So I was on a YouTuber live stream by the name of TheStoryTeller and a couple of his people in the comment section leaked who is voicing grandad before the comments got deleted.

People gotta remember that The Boondocks is based on an established cannon, that being the COMIC STRIP. It would be akin to replacing Master Splinter on TMNT or replacing Vegeta on DBZ because their voice actors passed away.
Grandad is a character that is established within canon. That means merchandising, promo, movies, etc. The character is “bigger” than the voice actor (No disrespect to John Witherspoon whatsoever)
Its the same thing with explaining why T’Challa shouldn’t be killed off in the MCU due to Chadwick Boseman’s untimely demise. These characters are meant to stand the test of time and be bankable and marketable (and therefore USABLE) for years and years to come
So we should have a new T’Challa next Black Panther

Thats right. Either new T’Challa or Shuri takes the mantle.
The CHARACTER is bigger than the actor. Thats why there’s been 68898 Batman movies, 88787 Superman movies, and 76658 Spiderman reboots.
And even bigger than that. T’Challa as a black MALE hero of African descent who is also a King and leader of men is TOO important to retire or kill off when it comes to mainstream representation of black men.

The situation is different because none of those actors playing them died before their series concluded. Chadwick Boseman was THE FIRST LIVE-ACTION BLACK PANTHER and he's been in five other in continuity movies that have grossed billions of dollars. I don't doubt they'll re-cast but I think its jarring that after five movies in the same continuity for some other guy to just replace him.
