Finished Artemis. Same author as The Martian. Was pretty good. A bit corny at times, but a good read and pretty good pace.

A Confederacy of Dunces - This was a wild read with an equally interesting backstory on the author. Def would recommend if you like funny and bizare.

Currently reading: Snow Crash. Not very far in at the moment, but it is futuristic sci-fi/cyberpunk style novel set in future US. I will report back on it.

The only Stephenson book Ive read was Seveneves. It was good but frustratingly slow at the same time. Look forward to your review.

Not really into cyberpunk, but after watching the Altered Carbon show on NF, I think Im going to read it after I finish Children of Blood and Bone

Let us know what you think of Snowcrash. it is one of my favorites by him. He wrote that shyt around 1992 before the internet really took off which I believe was around 1993 -94. I also liked The Diamond Age and Cryptonomicon. I am currently reading - but have stopped because of work - The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O.
That Raven in Snowcrash is one bad motherfukker...

Tomi Adeyemi conjures a stunning world of dark magic and danger in her West African-inspired fantasy debut, perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo and Sabaa Tahir.

Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zelie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.

But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were targeted and killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.

Now, Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.

Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers—and her growing feelings for the enemy.

7.5 out of 10. Characters and world are great. Excited to read the next book.

Pacing was rushed. Missed a lot of opportunities build deeper characters and story.

I cant decide if Im being too hard or too easy on this book, because i had such high expectations for it.

i thought artemis was cool, definitely not as fleshed out as the martian, but good stuff. for sure an interesting concept, quick read.

i read snow crash a few months back after reading Seveneves. Snow crash is like a mix between Ready Player One and some kind of Mob story. not bad by any means, but not on the same level as seveneves.

that was the one i really enjoyed, the whole premise was just really good to me. only thing was, for a book that literally seemed long, they totally rushed it at the end, for almost no reason. it didnt have to go down like that.

I aim to read 70 books* this year; so far I've read 16. I read 52 last year, I'm hoping at least beat that.

Here's some of the recent books I've bought, that'll be going into my reading list:

*that also includes graphic novels and manga.
