How is this? The premise got me

So far its fire! The story is LA based with the insiders view of the bar-restaurant game from a black perspective. Also speaks on gentrification and the black exodus of LA. Then there's the Ghanaian spies in the US with a bit of science fiction thrown in. shyt is wild asf! I'm enjoying it

From the reviews I read it sounds like typical YA stuff but slightly aged up. Not really my bag

It’s straight up YA. They say the characters are in their 20s but they act like typical mid teenage YA characters. I stalled half way on this with the Audible version. If you like something like Divergent you’d like this. I think that’s the obvious inspiration.

This week I finished Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett and The Word For World Is Forest by Ursula K Le Guin.

Started reading Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey but not going to finish it before the year is over with.

Tehanu by Ursula K Le Guin

It was short enough that I could break into my Expanse read and finish

Broke into my Leviathan Wakes read again and read the first two Harry Potter books since the series in Kindle Unlimited (got a free trial) and I never read them before. I'm legit surprised at how good they were. I only recently seen two of the movies (Goblet of Fire and the second part of Deathly Hallows) so I'm going into these books with little knowledge.

Finished reading Prisoner of Azkaban last week and finished Goblet of Fire earlier today.
So far each book has gotten better and better. I can see why Goblet of Fire won the 2001 Hugo Award for best novel.

I finished Fourth Wing in like 3 days. It's very generic...and truly felt like all setup. It was solid, but nothing as the critics hype. They're probably loving it since it's easily digestible. Hell, the characters speak in modern dialect, including slang.

Finished Order of the Phoenix a couple of days ago. Surprised at how much action was in it. So that's 5 of the Potter books done in January. I might be able to finish up Half Blood Prince before February 1 but I doubt it
