After Al Capone's 1931 conviction for tax evasion and prostitution, Lansky saw that he too was vulnerable to a similar prosecution. To protect himself, he transferred the illegal earnings from his growing casino empire to a Swiss numbered bank account, where anonymity was assured by the 1934 Swiss Banking Act. Lansky eventually even bought an offshore bank in Switzerland, which he used to launder money through a network of shell and holding companies :ehh::whoo:

Breh, he bought a bank :dead:

If you pay attention to how much each mobster was talked about, you'd swear Capone was in charge. But the reality is Lucky was essentially king after he started the Commission. The way he hoed out Nucky :ohlawd: :damn: He could've been the boss of ALL bosses but, he started the Commission which gave everybody a vote but, nikkas still had to answer to him, even Capone.

Some pieces of Boardwalk Trivia that blew my mind brehs...

During the first season, Steve Buscemi was told that Nucky's wife was actually in an asylum and not dead, as the character said to whoever asked. When Buscemi got the script for the episode in which Nucky tells Margaret the whole truth about Mabel's death, he went up to Terence Winter and asked him why Nucky was lying to Margaret when the scene felt to confessional. Winter replied that the asylum storyline didn't work out, so Mabel was actually dead.
:whoo:

Alec Baldwin was considered for Nucky Thompson.
:scusthov: Show would have been fukking terrible.

that would have sucked :russ:

i wonder who they woulda picked as nucky if buscemi had turned it down tho :patrice:
It apparently was written with Buscemi in mind however, they considered Baldwin.

They wanted someone who didn't favor Tony Soprano, even though the real "Nukcy" actually was a big imposing man like Tony.

I would go with... Damn, I can't think of anyone. :wow:

That's true, he is regarded like that, but doesn't a lot of it have to due with circumstance? He basically just wasn't a maniac and was Luciano's best friend.
Who had more power between him and Luciano? He was Luciano's brains. Luciano was Italian so he had that backing of the mafia but Lansky was the brains of the outfit, Luciano was the brawn.

This is criminally disrespectful. There were an infinite number of opportunities for him to fail (be it through jail, death, or being outsmarted/outb positioned by the next gangster), yet he didn't, and died an old, free man :wow:

Plus, you have to remember they were wtiting the blueprint, not reading it....exploring new avenues of getting paid. Dude bought a fukking off shore bank, breh, he was clearly thinking on a whole other level.
