Blueprint 3 is a guilty pleasure album. I like every track.

Same here breh. BP2 had a lot a lot of fire on it, and this is hardly a new take, but you can make a fire playlist with the best half of Blueprint 2. That's one album where Jay's excuse for it is accurate. It shouldn't have been a double album. That's it. There's 1 album's worth of really dope material there.

Naming the 2009 album Blueprint 3 really set the expectations too high, and I think it'd be remembered more fondly if had a title that lived on its own.

Edit: In general I hate when people number their albums. Like, sequels are almost never as good, and when you number them you make people think of the originals. I like what Ghostface and Evidence do (Fishscale and then More Fish...Weatherman and then Cats & Dogs). They can keep a theme going without numbering the albums 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. That's a way more creative approach. For example, I think I would like Bandana less if it were just called Piñata 2.
I’ll go as far as saying Jay was lyrically sharper on BP2 then on the first BP. If he would have trimmed the fat and added songs that were floating around on the mixtapes prior to its release (Addicted To The Game, Early This Morning, Murder Marcyville), BP2 at the least would’ve been a 4.5 mic album.

This is absolutely true. In fact Blueprint is one of Jay’s weaker efforts lyrically, despite being my 2nd favorite Jay album. I wanna say he’s even admitted to Blueprint being one of his most basic/dumbed down albums lyrically.

BP2/TBA era Jay is definitely more lyrical than BP1 era Jay.

No, it's fine. I just listened to it.

Unless they couldn't clear the samples, I have no idea why Jay would choose the Timbaland version over this one. This would have been another classic Just Blaze beat, and it would have sounded great at the beginning of the album.

Because Just's version is a remix. The "Reminder" on the album is the original.

Blueprint 3 was initially pitched to be entirely produced by Timbaland. Jay's response was that whoever gave him 10 great beats between Kanye and Tim would produce the album. Kanye ended up producing the majority and Timbaland was supposed to have 5 songs on it. Only three made it.

Damn. Honestly, Just Blaze's remix sounded much better suited for The Blueprint 3 than the original. It has that anthem feel to it.

I feel like Jay-Z always wanted an album where only one producer did all the beats on it. Between this and his original Black Album idea being 100% DJ Premier, it seems like an idea he had been trying to make happen for years before 4:44.
