All this talk of start something in the hood is crazy . It should have been done already it's too late now and all this crying about losing the hood is too late. Rents are to high just to run it , this chocolate place in Far Rockaway is being sold and that will devastate that area even more but you know what . Nobody is going to shyt about it but complain and bytch. There are some good ideas that people on here are suggesting but you know damn well it will never happen.
can you imagine the right wing smear campaign if they see black people using EBT cards to get gourmet cilantro rice and bean burros and pomegranate juice?
i can see john stossel starting a segment on fox news by saying "Nothing gets between Keisha and her quinoa![/b["
What did you contribute?
@The Real said he'd let me hold 800 racks
so blacks' naturally live at a low standard? How is raising the standard forcing black people to leave? Closing down a project building where nobody in it owns any part of the property isn't "pushing them out" they don't own it. Whoever owns it, probably the city, is just now using it for a different purpose which they have the right to do because they own it. Why didn't people save money and figure out a way to buy property like tons of people all over the world do?its not a game out here
im smack dab in the middle of ground zero in Detroit when it comes to a gentrified neighborhood
as well as the neighborhood i grew up in is going through changes as well
this is not the solution at all
the point IMO is to push the people out(specifically poor blacks)...not to "raise the standard of living for everyone" in said area..no opportunity will be given by way of jobs....i see no benefits in this

It's true though...Once a new shopping area comes to a poor area it attracts new residents and thus begin construction and the residents have their property taxes raised and thus they have to leave because only rich white residents can afford the new property. It's not a lie. look at any gentrified area, the idea starts small but then the developers see the prime real estate and only see green, they dont care about making the homes affordable to the residents that primarily reside in the area. They'll fukk them over just to make a buck. It happened in my old neighborhood, it happened in harlem. it happened in red hook.
Its the result of the slave mentality many blacks suffer from. So used to mediocrity and handouts that anything potentially good gets labeled "non-black". When in reality, black leaders should be teaching its people the best ways they can benefit economically by this. The community has a lot of strong hands it can play to force these companies to address its issues. As long as there is a potential for money to be made, people will work out their differences.
That's why instead of PAYING RENT nikkas need to get they weight up and start BUYING their homes. There is no reason for someone to live in a place for years and not own they're home, providing your not in government housing. That way, if gentrification does occur you could at least profit off of it. Furthemore, why do folk think that homes in a growing city are somehow "sacred?" Cities change and grow over time. Many places that were once remote get targeted for development once growth occurs.
Red hook looks nothing like the brooklyn I know and heard of growing up. shyt is crazy...
If Red Hook can get gentrified, nowhere in Easy NY is safe. or any bad area in the 5 boroughs.
This is the best post in the whole thread. Guys saying it will bring whites and the prices will rise but what about middle class blacks? I don't get this save the god damn hood mentality on here . I mean at what point do we raise our on standard of living? I mean how long can you a hood stay in poverty before it changes for the better? 50 years? Bottom line lots of blacks lost out on jobs and like someone said, concession could have been made to improve the lives of people who live there. I know someone going to say bring in black businesses but can someone name 1 that can hire 150 to 200 people right on the spot after it opens?
