Took me 64 hours to finish my playthrough
-one of the more challenging games i've played. Haven't been challenged like this throughout a game since i was playing Street Fighter 4. And i was playing online against actual people.
-Story needs a ton of looking up if you don't know the lore (i didnt), but you get the idea after a while
-gameplay is straighforward, but some games don't need a lot of depth to be enjoyable
Gripes I had with this game:
-Chapter 3 is home to some of the worst gaming experiences i've ever had. Very frustrating (electric dragon fight, and Pagoda World)
-A small amount of bosses are poorly designed (inconsistent hitboxes)
-The platforming and traveling needs work. often times i fell off ledges and couldn't get back on track. I had to use the teleport item and go back to a shrine and trek back to where i was. Also, some areas look like i can explore them but it's blocked off (Stellar blade had these same issues). Game could seriously use a double jump feature like most action RPG's
-if you die on certain boss fights you have to do a decent amount of travel to get back to that boss and try the fight again (Monk in Ch3 that dodges your attacks). Game needs a "retry option after death". I've talked about it previously in this thread
-Frame dropping is real in this game. Some might argue it's a boss fight in itself lol. The game also crashed on me about 4 times total. We need an update to make the game run smoothly. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, but you don't want random frame drops in any game you play
-Destined one is a silent protagonist smh. don't see why he couldn't speak. Not a fan of silent protagonists. It's not 2002 anymore (GTA 3, Jak and Daxter)
-Cant pause cutscenes. Just an unnecessary feature that more games have. Not a fan at all, especially since some cutscenes are LONG. Also, you cant pause the game during certain gameplay animations. For example, if Destined one is dodge rolling or doing a light attack combo, the game can't be paused. Especially noticeable during the Heavenly Kings Fight. Why do i need the punching animations to end completely before the pause function can work?
-Pretty much zero guidance in this game (controversial take, some people enjoy the lack of guidance). There is so much you wouldn't know about each chapter if you don't look it up. In Ch2, you can completely miss out on a spirit if you don't kill one enemy before the other. There's no way you can know that unless you look it up. I didn't look it up and ended up missing that spirit. There's no map, no hints, no real info. The game just drops you in each new chapter and says "go explore". You also have to exhaust dialogue before you can progress some side quests. In most games, just talking to an NPC one time will progress a quest. In some cases in this game, you can miss out on content because you didn't repeatedly talking to an NPC
-I flatout don't understand the "see through your opponent feature". I literally never used it.
What I Like About this Game:
-Looking back, now that I've finished, this game is wonderfully challenging. Outside of some very few poorly designed bosses pretty much all the bosses are fair. They require a lot of patience and anticipation. It's normal to have to fight them a few times. The toughest bosses (Black Loong, Erlang, Great Sage) aren't just broken unfair fights. You have to read the fight and learn the patterns. It's very difficult, and you might have to change your builds, but it's all doable
-The music videos at the end of the chapters are nicely animated, a great touch
-Very nice soundtrack
-Game is seen as a "Boss Rush" game. It's not. It's loaded with bosses, but each boss is unique, and has a unique set of skills. You most likely can't approach each boss the same exact way on your first playthrough. You can tell the developers put a ton of effort in each boss
-The game gives you the option of building around different stances. You don't need to stick to one stance to take down certain youguias. Having the freedom to switch between 3 stances at any given moment is great. And none of the stances get in the way of your build. They're all flexible that they can be used no matter the playstyle.
-A shyt ton of Spirit/Summons to choose from. I haven't even come close to using all of them. They all work well in certain situations so players can have fun exploring which ones they want to use throughout the game.
All in all, this game is an 8.5/10 for me (I gotta redo my ratings for previous games i've played at some point)
