My strategy for now will be to explore a bunch but play it without walkthroughs, then do a 100% run on New Game +. I can tell I'm gonna miss stuff, because I almost rolled right past the Frog Demon in Chapter 1, but accidentally fell into his area. The combat has me hooked. Bosses vary up their combinations of attacks really well, so I can't get into a rhythm like I got used to with most Souls games. This might be my game of the year

🫡 it’s TONS of secrets worlds in this game. the chapter 4 secret is one for the ages Ive been in here going on 6 hrs. Without spoilers 2 very very important boss fights

Tips for newbies just starting your monkey journey!

-explore explore explore

-listen to dialogue on NPC

-die and die some more think of the gym pain and gains

-utilize stances meaning focus on ONE per playthru

-backtrack backtrack, theses worlds are huge you will miss a lot!

-Side step counters a lot of spam from bosses. They will dump their whole shyt on your ghost

-get the hub open ASAP so you can upgrade armor.

-don’t be afraid to reallocate point for a specific fight. Take a pic with your cell phone or screen shot on your pc before if you love your build

-bosses are smart if you use a certain resistance they will use another one to counter you. Upgrade your 4 bane state. (Late game bosses)

I'll add some tips from earlier ITT:

General​

• Explore, explore, explore and take your time
• Read your descriptions for your skills and spirits - a lot have side effects you wouldn't think matter
• If you're stuck on a boss go walk around for a bit you may find some secrets that help you level up or get you something to help you in the fight
• When you pick up a spirit it refills your gourd, so take advantage of it and heal up before you absorb the spirit
• Don’t forget to upgrade your flasks with the monkey back in chapter 1 (until you unlock the hub) and check your brews at checkpoints, you might've picked up soaks along the way that cater to your play style.

Combat​

• Save your mana for boss fights
• Figure out your favorite ways to capitalize on openings
• While a boss is stunned you should hit with your heaviest skills (using a fully charged heavy, immobilize, a spirit move, etc)
• Counters are possible. The timing is rough in this game, but if you can figure it out you can use skills in smash stance and thrust stance that will ignore damage (so long as you have focus points) and allow you to get heavy hits in and stun a boss - giving you a window for attacking. Some examples:

Smash Stance

Press Heavy/triangle mid combo and if you’re at the start of the swing when the enemy hits, you’ll glow red and ignore the hit
You can follow up with another heavy if you have enough focus




Thrust Stance

Same buttons as above, but in thrust stance. If successful, you'll become invisible/invincible and can follow up with a heavy



And that heavy can also be followed up with holding light attack, which will get you doing flurry strikes




Pillar Stance

Doesn't have a counter like the others, but can nullify damage and crowd control easily with the spinaroonie

I'm fukking heated. I almost won against fukking Black Loong, but I got trapped/stuck between the rocks that I couldn't escape, but this mfer hit me one shot and I died, almost make me threw my fukking controller
