Having our own schools, with confident black men in leadership and a specialized curriculum tailored for young black boys & men. Also incorporating electives. That would be perfect.
I think cities are also hurting black youth as well. Pulling them out of the city will give them a better peace of mind.
Yep. But also the educational standards themselves are fukked up.
They not even working for WHITE kids, much less for black kids.
Why should you come out of high school iwith ZERO career prospects? Why do kids think going to college has to be expensive or out of pocket? Why aren’t they receiving trades training?
Where is the focus on writing skills? Interpersonal skills? Behavioral science? Why aren’t their science classes helping them understand their bodies, hormones, minds? What literature and history is being taught? Why is it primarily Eurocentric? Why isnt there a solid financial literacy core in our schools? Talented and gifted programs? Community based learning? Work products tied to real solutions? 5 paragraph essays to school boards on why they attacking critical race theory and trying to censor African American history? Heavy emphasis on statistical reasoning and interpreting how research has been weaponized against our community? Lessons for young boys and girls on healthy interactions with the opposite sex? Exploring anxiety and identity? Agriculture and life skills?
All of that could be embedded into a standard general curriculum. Which would energize and inspire students.
I can’t control whose allowing who to buss in them raw. I can’t control who walks away from their seed and who stays.
But we can control what gets poured into our children’s minds when they are away from home for so many hours of their developmental years. Unless we are going to completely homeschool kids, there’s gotta be better learning facilities. It’s not enough to tell young emergent adult men that they should be moving out and getting a job and being happy, successful members of society…without taking a long hard look at what’s happening during the years prior to the age of 21 when they supposed to leave the nest. I’m the biggest pusher of men from the nest because I want them to experience the beauty of having their own space and the peace that can come from that for a period of their lives.
But they staying at home because our society has not prepared them adequately. I want them to be accountable but we REALLY have to confront what is happening in our society that’s driving this shyt. And that’s not just parents. Or teachers. Or even administrators. That’s a failure of our entire education system.
Black men aren’t the only ones going through this shyt. Quiet as it’s kept, white males are suffering too. And if the most protected, privileged group of males in the universe is withdrawing from society and offing themselves…in spite of generational wealth and a racial leg up…what the hell do people expect is gonna happen to black men with the added issues of systematic racism?
School isn’t about merely being educated. It’s about molding citizens. And we are failing ours and then blaming them for it. And they are in turn lashing out and blaming others. This is not sustainable. I’ll never support men trying to blame women for this, but to be honest, I genuinely don’t think this is men’s faults either. And it isn’t immigrants faults either. Or parents. Or any other distraction. Our strings are being pulled.
I don’t know if whites will ever wake up…but we can’t stay asleep with them. If we gotta do it from the ground up in our local communities, it’s gotta happen or this shyt will only get worse.
