Seek what truth? If someone is struggling with mental issues this is awful advice. We need to make mental healthcare like therapists more affordable in this country

There was a twitter thread recently about medical stats, which showed black men are at the bottom of every negative healthcare outcome except heart disease and death during child birth (black women). Before a discussion could even begin, multiple (black) women immediately dismissed the stats by saying “black men don’t go to the doctor.”
That was just a social media encounter featuring a couple people but it explains the general sentiment towards black men. Is it any wonder that people who are ignored, belittled, and dismissed are suicidal? Empowering black men is viewed with skepticism and derision. We’re asked why we deserve xyz, instead of any solidarity.
It’s clear to me that all black men have is themselves. We need to be a lot better about supporting each other because it’s very clear that there’s a union between pop culture media and academia where the end goal is our erasure.

I think these stats track right along with increased alcohol, benzos, & opioids usage.
Not that those drugs alone are the cause of increased depression rates. It’s more likely they’re reinforcing already existing depression.
