The standards seem consistent with the scores of California, New York, and just about everywhere else in the Nation.

It's been almost 60 years since integration and 40 years since the great society program, and nothing has changed. I believe scores have actually went down a little since the 50s.

an exorbitant amount of money has been spent per child on D.C. schools, and that hasn't changed anything. The problem doesn't seem to be funding at all.

It's culture. Sorry. That's all there is too it. Black American culture does not promote academics and scholastic achievement.

I see so many cultures out here and it's consistently East Asians, Middle easterners, South Asians, East Africans and other African immigrants who are on top of everything from the hard sciences to accounting.

People say it has nothing to do with race...sorry. Race and culture are intertwined, and will always be. There's a race in America. A relatively new hybrid race with a slave-mind culture--these are the African Americans, and for the most part they suck. The first black president was the son of an African Immigrant. I think that says a lot.

:pacspit:

this dude is spitting truth though

everyone likes to say this, but I think we need an education system that helps kids even if they have crappy parents

Real shyt.

The way you hear people talk, you'd think it was the kid's fault that their parents are shyt.

I wouldnt say dumber. I say SOME of our black kids lack discipline. Think about it in our culture the average 15 year old kids wants to be in entertainment or sports."Lil Johnny is gonna be a WR",but how many of us are coaches, owners etc.... Nothing wrong with dreams but why cant we be Owners,Producers, Chemists,Mathmeticians? etc....its because WE are trained a certain way.Being smart isnt cool and is considered, nerd, suspect to other teenagers and our kids become outcast due to being smart. The parents have to break the cycle.Sorry but to 99% of the teachers in America your child aint nothing but a paycheck, they come to class and the teachers TRY to teach them for 8 hours. Then when the school day is over, those teacher go home to their kids who are learning top notch education.

For sure i'm reading this, i actually had it book marked already from some other time when you posted it, i think i just forgot about it. I do already try some riddles with my kids, or in general just get them to try to think about things but the more resources i have the better. If you have any leads on any riddle type games hook it up.

Amazon.com: Math riddles

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Martin+gardner

Remember, plenty of puzzles won't take 5 minutes, some won't take an hour, day, maybe even a week+, so don't lose any confidence in your kids. The important part is the process. Some of those books mentioned aren't even for youngsters, so take your time, no reason to throw everything at them at once.

Once they've progressed, here's an awesome book that has had me :mindblown::leon::whew::damn: quite a few times:
Thinking Physics: Understandable Practical Reality (English Edition): Lewis Carroll Epstein: 9780935218084: Amazon.com: Books

This book just captured my attention:
Quantify!: A Crash Course in Smart Thinking: Göran Grimvall: 9780801897177: Amazon.com: Books

Along those same lines, emphasize this to your kids as well:

Screw all that. You know how many black boys in particular are off put by the way they're perceived in the school system?

It still stands out to me in 4th grade when all of the boys would talk amongst ourselves about the glaring bias our teacher had towards us compare to the girls (I went to a mostly black public school in Brooklyn). It's around 4th grade where black boys and their scores begin to nose dive away from their white peers.

I refuse to believe that black parents collectively decide to take their foot off the gas in 4th grade when it comes to parenting.

I have a huge fear of letting these teachers who come in with their ingrained biases, even when they mean well, to teach my kids....particularly my sons.

They throw black boys in special ed and other programs so quick in public schools that it will make your head spin

why is it that you can never speak with the same zeal and interest about the cultural behavior of the school system and their treatment if black students?

You will probably respond with a gloss over attitude p so you can quickly jump back to your consistent need to push your belief that its on black culture, not other factors you probably take zero time to investigate.

ive spoken with zeal about destroying the public school system and replacing it with charter schools and vouchers, if a parent feels the school is not good for their kid then they should have the ability to remove them from that school

That's not getting to my point, and if you read up on the success rate of charter school, you'd know that it isn't a viable option since they have a higher failure rate than public schools.

How can you advocate such a thing knowing that?

Even in your answer, you say nothing about the culture exhibited by public schools and their treatment of black kids.

ZERO

but that does get to the point, why are you asking me to defend a system i dont even believe in, if charter schools dont work then parents should be able to switch to a voucher system to put their kid in private school

the public school system should be destroyed and built back up based on independent schools and parental control, how does that not address what you are saying?

maybe its you that arent addressing the real issue, why should any parent tolerate a school bureaucracy telling their child should to be in special ed if the parent doesnt think that, its like you firmly believe that the bureaucracy should have such powers and you want to work through the bureaucracy, i cant help you with that

You'll always get the cats talking that hot fire when some cac basically calls you a dumb ****** through their policies. Probably one of the dumbest things they could ever do. Creating nikkas with something to prove.

I asked you to put the same emphasis you get into blaming black culture for their failures in education into public schools and their cultural mistreatment of black students.

For you to bring up charter schools where only 17% of them outpace public schools as some sort of rescue does not address your lack of input regarding the cultural shortcomings of the public school system in their treatment and handling of black children.

There's so much to that, but you seem to put so much emphasis into telling people how many ways black culture is at fault while giving props to band aid solutions.

Man please. Read up on how these schools treat our kids....where the drop off in test scores begin. Look at the difference in suspension rates, even in fukkin PRE SCHOOL where our boys are 7 times likely to be suspended for similar offenses committed by white children. It amazes me how you never get into detail about the short comings of the public school system and its treatment of black kids but can wax poetics about how fukked up black culture is when it comes to education.

You're the type whose stuck on end result statistics...period.

It's see through. You do the same shyt when talking about blacks killed in Libya. Straight denial.

You lack flexibility.
