A) glad to see all the pittsburghers chime in - chilling with my pit in east lib right now. :dog:
B) i'm white so my experience isn't really relevant
but i help my girl do a lot of work in uptown and the hill and residents there are some of the most proud yet disenfranchised people in the city and they are quite vocal about the racial dynamics and issues in the city and they have every right to do so since the city has turned a blind eye to minorities' concerns (specifically blacks) and the poor for years and years. the hill and homewood are two glaring examples of being blighted after being ignored by the city since the late 50's and early 60's.
C) east lib was the same way (grew up going there all the time) until whole foods and target moved in and shythead yuppies jacked up the price of everything (shadow lounge and AVA are gone [moved to oakland]) so now the best nightspots by my apt are gone. i just bought a house with my girl in morningside (next to highland park) and will have a lot lot more for the same amount of money.
D) i'm a musician and i'm cuffed so i have something to do with my nightlife but if you were into going to the club or something i could see how the pickings would be slim
the PITTSBURGH 6 is not just the amount of rings the steelers have. it's a very good descriptor for a lot of what you see.
E) i just got a new job at pitt. oakland sucks aside from when the weather is nice. restaurants are terrible. compared to downtown where i worked for 8 years i am appreciative to see some young broads walking around
because all i had downtown was CLUB BLUSH
but if any coli dudes want to hit that place up hit me with a PM.
F) i miss laga. played my first big gig there when i was 19.
G) i am born and raised here and the thing i love the most about PGH is every other city you want to visit is not a long trip. NYC six hours away, philly 5, DC 4, cleveland 3, chicago 8, etc. it's a nice homebase to come back to.
but as i said, this is my anecdotal experience and i have never had to deal with the same struggle minority men and women face everyday. but i can certainly say i am an ally.
