Dah, that makes sense.
I thought that name sounded familiar. Saw his BR page now.

I mean it doesn't make sense that you got asked if you were related to him.

Doesn't make sense to me either. I'm guessing a lot of cacs there were just not used to seeing an Asian guy in the stands.

If it makes you feel any better, when I went to school at Pitt :gag: I was constantly asked if I was on any sports teams.

As if the concept of a tall athletic black male NOT playing sports is alien to them.

People just love stereotyping breh.

Hmmph, aside from that, has the Pirate's recent success impacted gentrification in Pittsburgh?

Gentrification in Pittsburgh has been a slow process...nothing really has changed though. The cost of living is still low.

The East Liberty/Shadyside/Bloomfield/Lawrenceville area is probably where gentrification has happened the most. It used to be really dangerous in the 80s and 90s. After the project high rises got torn down the development in and around the area changed. Penn Ave is just weird because of it...it seperates Friendship and East Liberty. On one side of Penn is Friendship which is very nice with a suburban type feel and predominantly white. And on the other side is East Liberty which is run down, dangerous, and predominantly black.

There was an apartment complex and some buildings that popped up there which included a coffee shop, vegan cafe, and a yoga studio along with some condos. Last time I checked the activity there slowed down...people still come and go. There have been out of towners and transplants moving in, but they move out as soon as they come.

Lived in 4 different states, 7 different cities... I've been out the hood, including Cranberry, Whitehall, Brentwood, Baldwin, Washington County, Fayette County, Robinson, Moon, North Versailles, Erie County, West Mifflin...you're exaggerating like hell just to make a thread is all I'm saying. Ive lived places where it's majority white, and Pittsburgh really ain't one of those places

LOL @ this...really? WOW! You must be in denial man. After coming back from NYC it's like night and day. I'm not even exaggerating. Pittsburgh is an extremely racist city. And I've lived here the majority of my life here (26 out of 29 years of my life).

I've been to so many spots here, besides those you've just mentioned, Mars, Aliquippa, Deer Lakes, North Hills (where I'm from), Hampton, Mt. Oliver, Shaler, Homestead, Mon Valley, Coriopolis (SP), Ambridge, South Hills, Monroeville, Murrysville, etc. I lived in the South Side, Oakland, and Friendship. After a certain point of traveling around the immediate and surrounding Pittsburgh area, you will be hard pressed to see any black folks or any people of color around at all. Most (if not all) of the suburbs in Pittsburgh and the metro Pittsburgh area are white. Growing up in the suburbs around here my family was always one of the few black families around.

I have some stories about my years here that would make this forum cringe. So how am I reaching to make a thread when I've heard many other people say the same thing?

I'm from Beltzhoover so obviously I know what Mt Oliver, Knoxville and all that's about, so comparing that area to somewhere like Cranberry then you'd be right. But I've never had any type of racists experiences at all, no matter where I've been (im sure. Im a pretty big nikka so maybe that has stopped some of the BS happening to me. But still, I just don't run into the issues you are speaking of. Only problems I've had is with task force

Oh ok, I know Beltzhoover. I've got friends that live there and along the Allentown area. And consider yourself lucky you haven't had that many experiences with racism here.

Coming from a family of Nigerians and West Indians I've had way too many experiences with racism (ranging from casual to in your face). In fact, that what inspired me to move out of Pittsburgh along with the lack of diversity here...I just couldn't take it anymore.

Like I'm here in my family's house staying with them for thanksgiving in the burbs. When we moved here 20 years ago, 4 white families straight up moved out not even two months after we moved here (we were one of three black families in the whole neighborhood). We were inspired to move there from my dad's friends when they moved out of their old neighborhood. The old neighborhood where they lived at in Wexford was filled with racist white people. I remember they had a christmas display one year when I was real little and some racist white people set fire to their christmas display and jungle gym playset just cause. I remember when it happened and my family and their family were shook. I was 8 at the time and didn't even understand it until I was older.

oh wow the humanity... a cop laughed at the poor africans clothes:stopitslime:

The same type of incident happened to my dad when I was 10. :stopitslime:

He was driving me and my older sister from from the mall in his Mercedes (he's a doctor...and also Nigerian) and a cop pulled him over out of spite and gave no reason. :stopitslime:

Me thinks you didn't even read the article and just wanted to chime in with some smart dumb nikka shyt.:stopitslime:
and who said he was poor? :stopitslime:
